As a Compute Tech Intern under the NASA End-User Services & Technologies (NEST) contract, you will play a key role in supporting the technology needs of NASA’s Compute Team. This includes providing essential troubleshooting and repair services for NASA's IT systems, both hardware and software. You’ll gain valuable experience in diagnostics, system restoration, and maintenance, while working closely with experienced engineers, vendors, and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with break/fix support: Help troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues with desktop computers, laptops, servers, and other IT devices used by NASA personnel.

  • Perform system diagnostics: Conduct in-depth diagnostic assessments of systems to identify and resolve technical problems.

  • Repair and replace hardware: Assist in the replacement and repair of broken or malfunctioning hardware, including components such as motherboards, hard drives, and peripheral devices.

  • Collaborate with vendors and OEMs: Work closely with external vendors and OEMs to ensure timely delivery and quality of replacement parts and technology components.

  • Maintain system performance: Help with regular system maintenance tasks, including software updates, firmware upgrades, and hardware checks, to prevent future failures.

  • Document issues and resolutions: Keep accurate records of all issues encountered, troubleshooting steps taken, and resolutions implemented for future reference.

  • Assist with tech deployment: Help with the deployment and installation of new systems, software updates, and technology upgrades to improve NASA’s computing environment.

  • Provide basic support: Offer technical assistance to internal teams and end users in resolving minor computing issues related to hardware and software.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field at an accredited college/university.

  • Strong interest in IT support, hardware repair, and troubleshooting.

  • Familiarity with common operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux) and hardware components (CPUs, RAM, storage devices, etc.).

  • Basic understanding of networking and systems administration concepts.

  • Comfortable working with diagnostic tools, hardware repair, and system monitoring software.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and resolve technical issues quickly.

  • Eagerness to learn and grow in a dynamic, hands-on technical environment.

  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with a team and external vendors.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

  • US citizenship required.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with hardware repair, particularly for desktop computers, laptops, or servers.

  • Familiarity with troubleshooting software issues, including operating systems and common software applications.

  • Exposure to ITIL processes or experience in a helpdesk or support environment.

  • Familiarity with IT ticketing systems and tracking tools.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $46,800.00 - $84,600.00
