Assists in directing area office operations. Assists in managing and supervises employees involved in construction, design, maintenance, survey, laboratory activities and office operations. Reports to the Area Engineer, who has full authority for approval of all work. Responsible for the operations of the area office in the absence of the Area Engineer. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence. Essential Duties:Assists Area Engineer in projecting personnel and equipment needed for each project as required responds for emergency situations/conditions to assist with office activities.Conducts pre-construction, Employee Forum and safety meetings.Keeps abreast of current transportation design innovations, modifications, laws, regulations, policies and procedures.Oversees right-of-way, design and/or plan preparation for area office.Prepares and recommends field changes and supplemental agreements.Resolves public complaints.Reviews plans prepared by area office personnel, checks designs, specifications and estimates.Reviews utility permits.Works with governmental officials on behalf of the Area Engineer.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
