We are seeking a Vice President of Safety to join our team in Sioux Falls, SD or Houston, TX area. The VP of Safety is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the safety and compliance programs across all telecommunications operations. This position ensures the organization adheres to all relevant safety standards and regulations, promotes best practices, and fosters a strong culture of safety. The VP of Safety collaborates with other executives to integrate safety into business operations, mitigate risks, and ensure a safe working environment for all team members, contractors, and stakeholders.

The Role

  • Leads the development and execution of safety programs across all telecommunications operations, including field operations, drops, and construction

  • Develops and implements a comprehensive safety strategy that aligns with the organization’s objectives and regulatory requirements, including OSHA, FCC, and industry standards

  • Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations, industry standards, and internal policies Update safety protocols and policies as needed

  • Conducts regular risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and vulnerabilities across the organization. Implement corrective actions to mitigate risks

  • Leads, mentors, and develops a high-performing safety team

  • Provides direction, support, and performance management to ensure that team members have the skills, knowledge, and resources to execute safety programs effectively

  • Oversees the development and delivery of safety training programs for team members and contractors, ensuring everyone is knowledgeable about safety procedures and protocols

  • Manages safety incidents and investigations, ensuring accurate reporting, root cause analysis, and implementation of preventive measures to avoid future occurrences

  • Fosters a culture of safety across all levels of the organization by engaging team members, promoting accountability, and encouraging best practices in safety behaviors

  • Works closely with other departments such as operations, human resources, and legal to ensure safety is integrated into all business functions

  • Analyzes safety performance metrics and trends

  • Provides regular reports to senior leadership on safety performance, compliance, and areas for improvement

  • Ensures that external vendors and contractors comply with the organization’s safety standards and procedures

  • Leads the development and coordination of emergency response plans and ensure readiness for any potential crisis or safety incidents

  • Other duties as required

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in safety management within the telecommunications or construction industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field preferred

  • Certification in safety management, such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar, is preferred

  • Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA regulations, FCC guidelines, and industry-specific safety standards

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence and engage teams at all levels

  • Expertise in regulatory compliance and safety standards

  • Strong strategic thinking and planning capabilities

  • Exceptional leadership, mentoring, and team-building skills

  • Proficiency in safety-related software and data analysis tools

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Travel +/- 50% annually, depending on office location

  • Valid driver’s license or ID

  • Passing of all pre-employment requirements (MVR, Background Check, Drug Screen)
