Job Summary

Langan is seeking a Texas Practice Leader- Landscape Architecture & Planning to lead and grow Langan’s landscape studios. This individual will be responsible for directing client development efforts along with statewide responsibility for overall design and permitting of landscape architecture, land development and planning projects, building upon an established, award-winning 20+ year national landscape architecture practice that is currently rooted in 13 studios nationwide.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to be instrumental in powering our expansion in Texas while growing our diverse portfolio of waterfront design, urban revitalization, streetscape, smart growth planning, community design, retail and commercial site planning, healthcare and university campus design, rooftop gardens, green infrastructure, and brownfield redevelopment projects.

While the role demands that this practice leader possesses an independent and self-starter personality and is highly entrepreneurial, this individual will also be supported with robust corporate resources for a successful integration and career at Langan, including our business development and marketing team along with support from and collaboration with landscape architecture and engineering principals and associates across the firm.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work closely with firm and LA+P leadership to develop, evolve and execute strategic growth plans;

  • Grow the firm’s LA+P brand regionally and expand the team’s landscape architecture capabilities in Texas and the southwest;

  • Lead in the identification and pursuit of new clients, develop additional work within existing projects and attend business development meetings with new and existing clients with the goal of developing long-term client relationships;

  • Interface and foster professional relationships across Langan’s Texas offices and LA+P group leadership team and actively engage in the planning, designing, and permitting of landscape architecture, land development and planning projects;

  • Provide direct oversight and development of next-gen leaders and junior staff;

  • Coach, train, and motivate a team of landscape architects while supervising, reviewing, and approving work of project staff;

  • Guide workforce planning, recruiting and hiring initiatives for the Texas studios;

  • Oversee and actively manage project and studio financial performance, invoicing, collections, etc;

  • Become well-versed in all Langan services with the goal of cross-selling Langan services and for overall project coordination purposes;

  • Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of successful, local and related landscape architecture and planning experience with a concentration in site development on both small and large projects;

  • Possess an established network of regional clientele, and strong client development and client management abilities;

  • A passion for design excellence, creating inspiring places while delivering a high-level of service to our clients;

  • Professional landscape architect license in Texas is required; other states a plus;

  • Track record of active participation in professional organizations;

  • Prior management experience with the ability to grow, lead and cultivate staff;

  • Experience in report and proposal writing, contracts, billing, and budgeting;

  • Strong attention to design and detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities;

  • Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment; and

  • Bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture required; Master’s degree a plus.
