Position Description

Responsibilities of the Product Pipeline System Design Engineer will include preparing preliminary designs of refined products pipelines, pump stations, terminals, truck racks, and related facilities; supporting Product Pipeline system and construction and expansion projects; and supporting ongoing operations of refined product pipeline systems, terminals, and related facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Works closely with KM Product Pipeline commercial, product scheduling, and project management staff and others to fully understand project functional requirements and then provide an effective preliminary design to meet all project objectives.

• Develops and maintains steady-state, transient, and real-time hydraulic models to simulate the operations of refined products pipeline systems and terminals.

• Analyzes terminal and pipeline operations using hydraulic models and other tools to assess system capabilities and/or resolve operational issues.

• Creates concise reports presenting design options

• Maintains effective working relationships with all members of the Products team including personnel from commercial, operations, product scheduling, and project management.

• Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

• Ability to work independently with limited direct supervision.

• Experience in the design and/or operation of natural gas and/or crude oil gathering systems and transmission pipelines.

• Experience in the specification, installation and/or operation of refined product systems (pipelines/terminals/ pumps).

• Proficiency in the use of hydraulic and/or process simulation software (such as NextGen, Promax, SPS, etc.) to model refined product pipeline and terminal systems.

• Working knowledge of refined products pipeline equipment including: pipelines, pumps, truck racks, tankage and metering facilities.

• Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Earth, GIS, SCADA and the ability to learn other programs quickly.

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Engineering discipline (Mechanical, Civil, Chemical or Electrical is preferred)

• 5 years of experience in the refined products system industry including relevant field experience is preferred.
