SUMMARY:

The primary purpose of the Supervisor, Intake Navigation position is to provide day to day oversight to Intake Nurse Navigators. Lead and coach the navigator team to provide exceptional services to patients and providers by welcoming patients, conducting record review and assessing barriers to care, managing new patients calls and in basket messages. Offer education and resources to help navigators promote informed decision making and access to quality medical and supportive care services, helping circumvent barriers to care in the healthcare system from screening and pre-diagnosis of cancer through all phases of the disease-state experience and beyond to survivorship. The supervisor works closely with access and clinical leaders and care team providers across the specialty areas to coordinate the patient's plan of care, communicating with all members of the team.

This position will be Monday through Friday, around the hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm, and may require working rotating weekends in the future.

Job Specific Competencies:

Navigation

  • Provide day to day oversight to Intake nurse navigators.

  • Knowledgeable in key functions and role of intake nurse navigators

  • Implement support tools recommended by Navigation and Access leadership; recommend updates to operating procedures and documentation as needed; maintain standard operating procedures related to navigated patients

  • Collaborate with Access Manager and Navigation program Director to continually create and update processes and technology for the Oncology Navigation Program.

  • Monitor, analyze and report key navigation metrics in a timely manner. Identify and recognize opportunities for improvement as well as successes

Operations:

  • Evaluate and track employee performance and staffing levels to ensure coverage; analyze quality and efficiency standards as needed; examine customer feedback (including, but not limited to patients, referring and clinic providers); remain adaptive to meet customer needs and expectations.

  • Monitor and track attendance, including financial responsibility in monitoring overtime utilization

  • Reach service goals through targeted approach; address performance weaknesses; record data, evaluate performance, and assess opportunities for improvement.

  • Communicate and operationalize vision; encourage cooperative and customer-focused employee culture.

  • Operationalize staff schedules and assignments to promote a cohesive work environment

  • Assist in patient assignments to intake navigators after referral review. Redirect patients as appropriate.

  • Escalate provider issues to Access Manager timely.

  • Facilitate technology exploration and needs assessments; oversee technology installation and implementation

  • Oversee processes, including tracking and monitoring, to ensure compliance with established SOP.

  • Participates in institutional committees and working groups to understand complex operational issues and develop and implement scalable, sustainable solutions.

  • Partner with Access Supervisor to best support the needs of the patients, team and clinic, as well as better understand complex operational issues and assist in identifying solutions.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Human Resources and Transformational Leadership

  • Onboard and train new staff; serve as mentor to navigators. Assist navigators with technology and serve as resource for staff who may need support. Monitor workflows and escalate to manager when expectations are not being met.

  • Maintain strong communication and relationships with patients, staff, and clinical teams; Develop relationships with key stakeholders abroad, locally and internally, to identify opportunities and collaboration.

  • Develop a team environment by holding regular team meetings. Promote psychological safety with the team to share best practices and facilitate problem solving.

Training, Regulatory & Compliance

  • Ensures effective resource management, facilitation of customer service and consistent compliance with hospital operational policies and procedures.

  • Coordinates to ensure Navigation service(s) area have appropriate space, privacy and resources to meet regulatory guidelines while functioning efficiently and meet productivity goals and patient care needs.

  • Collaborates with Access manager and Navigation Program Director in oversight for continued readiness for access to meet institutional, state and federal regulatory guidelines.

  • Complete mandatory training, education and annual core competencies programs as outlined by MD Anderson.

Education

Required : Bachelor's degree in Nursing.

Experience

Required : Five years professional oncology nursing or oncology nurse navigation experience to include two years in a lead or supervisory capacity. With preferred degree, three years professional oncology nursing or oncology nurse navigation experience to include two years in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Certification/License

Current State of Texas Professional Nursing License (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
