Universal Engineering Sciences Staff Environmental Scientist in Houston, Texas

UES is seeking an experienced environmental scientist to join our team. The position is to be based out of our Houston office. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience conducting Phase I environmental site assessments, wetlands assessments, and/or related environmental due diligence activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), including site visits

  • Review and analyze environmental reports and studies, environmental data sources, databases

  • Prepare reliance letters

  • Clearly convey environmental information and regulatory requirements associated with property transactions and due diligence findings

  • Interact with clients and regulatory agencies including the TCEQ, USACE, and EPA

  • Write and produce scientific and professional reports

Education and Experience:

  • BS or MS in environmental science, biology,ecology, planning, engineering, or related natural science discipline

  • 3-5 years of experience in performing Phase I ESAs

  • Experience in performing natural resourceassessments, wetlands assessments, threatened and endangered species surveys,and/or other related environmental due diligence activities an asset

Required Skills/Abilities/Physical Requirements:

  • Legal authorization to work in the US

  • Valid driver’s license to operate a vehicle in the US and a clean driving record

  • Willingness and ability to travel and work in various outdoor site conditions and project locations (30-60% field work, occasional overnight travel)

  • Strong verbal communication and technical writing skills

  • Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, problem-solving, and research skills

  • Proven ability to work productively on multiple projects simultaneously under strict deadlines

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Ability to effectively work in a team environment with minimal supervision

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel, and Adobe Acrobat

  • Ability to pass a workplace physical, drugscreening, and background check
