DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provides basic maintenance and repair to structures, facilities, and equipment to ensure a safe and clean environment. Performs basic maintenance and repairs to structures, facilities, and equipment, i.e. housekeeping activities, fabrication and installations, routine cleaning and servicing of vehicles, and cement mixing and preparation. Operates power and hand tool equipment. Performs painting, roofing, carpentry, and plumbing activities. May operate vehicles to and from work locations. Ensure equipment is maintained and in safe working conditions daily. Communicate with all co-workers, supervisors, upper management, and other entities, to ensure all work is accomplished . Performs additional miscellaneous assignments as required in the collection system.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position requires extensive, near-continuous physical exertion such as repeated lifting of very heavy objects (more than 80 pounds) deep bending, climbing steps and/or assuming awkward positions.

This is a Department of Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to read, write, add, subtract and follow oral and/or basic written instructions as might normally be acquired through 9 to 11 years of formal schooling.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Six (6) months of related experience are required.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

Valid Texas Driver License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2).

PREFERENCES

Preference will be given to applicants with High School Diploma or GED.

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
