DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Houston Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to building a sustainable community and enhancing the quality of urban life by providing safe well-maintained parks and offering affordable programming for our community. To achieve this mission, HPARD is seeking a Recreation Facility Manager to join our Tennis team.
The potential candidate will play a key role in the following duties:
Supervise and oversee all aspects of personnel and operations of a recreational facility.
Assists in developing a player and coaching system that meets the development of both players and volunteer coaches at all levels (beginner to advanced).
Schedules and monitors project implementation and completion.
Instruct a variety of professional development seminars to staff, emphasizing topics such as public relations.
Assists in developing a comprehensive coaching manual for the HPARD Youth tennis program for schools and community centers.
Assists in developing a coaching philosophy and playing style for youth tennis players.
Conducts on-site field visits, inspects playground equipment to provide preventive maintenance measures and ensures safe play and work conditions.
Prepare and submit financial and program participation reports.
Obtain the support and cooperation of the public by maintaining positive public relations through establishing creative promotional literature and friendly communication.
Coordinate programming and scheduling for numerous activities and programs including special events, building and equipment rentals and referee staffing for league games.
Design brochures, announcements and pamphlets to promote various activities offered at centers.
Assists in formulating rules and regulations with the tennis community.
Plans, develops and implements programs at recreation centers for youth and teens in the After School and Summer Programs for participants ages 6-13 at various locations.
Promote exhibitions and demonstrations in conjunction with programs and special events.
Assist in maintaining reports and other paperwork as assigned.
Must work with staff to maintain inventory control systems and market programs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
An Associate's degree in physical education, art or a related field is required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Two years of experience in recreation or education are required.
Full-time recreation or educational experience may be substituted for the above education requirement on a year-to-year basis.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
May require a valid Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).
PREFERENCES
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.

Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification. The salary range is:
