Job Description

The Legal Department of David Weekley Homes is accepting applicants for Real Estate & Transactional attorneys to work in the Legal Department at our home office in Houston. A qualified candidate must have experience in a law firm or corporate legal department, that specifically includes real estate, land acquisition and development contracts for home-building or land development companies.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate land purchase contracts, land finance documents, and other agreements related to the acquisition and/or development of raw land and single-family lots.

  • Prepare documents for the formation of property owners associations and monitor the proper management and turnover of the associations.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions (CC&Rs), declarations, bylaws, and other documents related to subdivisions and housing projects.

  • Review title commitments and prepare objection letters.

  • Review and prepare professional services agreements and vendor contracts.

  • Track compliance with consumer sales disclosure requirements.

  • Work closely with in-house counsel, legal and other company staff, and company managers.

  • Interact regularly with title companies and outside counsel.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school

  • Licensed to practice law and admitted in good standing in Texas or another state where David Weekley Homes builds

  • A minimum of 7 years of real estate law experience, primarily focused on the transactional areas described above.

  • Prior experience in-house with a homebuilder or residential developer preferred.
