MD Anderson Cancer Center Program Manager - Cancer Prevention & Control Platform in Houston, Texas

The mission of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.

This position will work with internal and external stakeholders focused on cancer prevention and control in community and community-based clinical settings. The Cancer Prevention and Control Platform's health strengthening work aims to enhance clinical environments across a range of evidence-based actions critical to cancer prevention and early detection.

The position will also provide support and technical assistance to community-based organizations and community clinical organizations delivering evidence-based interventions. Additionally, this position will facilitate a coalition of organizations collaborating to improve community health and wellness.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Texas Health Equity Alliance for Breast Cancer (THEAL) Program Management (60%)

· Manage day-to-day operations of THEAL, performing all administrative processes related to the program

· Lead coalition planning and development (e.g., agenda development, coordinating speakers, meeting materials, meeting scheduling) including the Steering Committee, Backbone Organization and Implementation teams

· Facilitate execution of the implementation plans as the operational lead

· Develop and manage program timelines related to deliverables and milestones internally and with external collaborating organizations; engage in such work with a firm understanding of long-range program goals and institutional relationships

· Provide subject matter expertise to assist with coordination and organization of working groups (e.g., patient navigation and clinic innovation) to ensure results-based outcomes, as needed

· Develop and maintain database of Texas Medical Center health system strategic and community benefit priorities

· Support all projects within the THEAL portfolio, as needed

Health System Strengthening Initiative Development and Implementation (20%)

· Support development of projects that disseminate clinic-based evidence-based interventions across the cancer continuum (e.g., from prevention to survivorship)

· Build a foundation of trust and foster partnerships with key stakeholders in clinical and community-based organization communities

· Use expertise and experience to identify and resolve operational issues and interacts with all levels of internal and external stakeholders to resolve problems

· Engage directly with stakeholders relevant to the success initiatives, including relationship management (i.e. attending Steering Committee meetings, site visits)

· Manage capacity-building trainings for staff, researchers, and collaborators

· Develop and maintain current and comprehensive understanding of cancer disparities, non-medical drivers of health, health systems strengthening, and related pertinent fields and standards of practice. Actively applies this understanding concurrent to align for successful outcomes within individual programs, integration of core elements to achieve success at a departmental and institutional level and exercise of accountability through metrics and applied program evaluation

· Incubate ideas related to expansion of the health systems strengthening portfolio

Initiative Operations, Administration, and Reporting (15%)

· Manage the fund governance model and all related forms (e.g., strategic interest forms, applications, rubrics for review, timelines) for new and existing projects

· Work with organizations to develop and maintain effective evaluation and reporting strategies before funding is initiated

· Aid in the contract creation and management process, including all related materials (e.g., Statements of Work)

· Manage the budget portfolio for all projects in the program portfolio including invoice management and tracking

· Manage initiative project tracking and invoice tracking templates

· Manage all forms and process related to the quarterly and annual reports process working with collaborating organizations to ensure accountability and appropriate fund management

· Develop and utilize quantitative and qualitative mediums to communicate, track trends within, and inform prospective decision-making related to program and investments of the Cancer Prevention & Control Platform

· Assist with identifying and writing grants and philanthropic investments to sustain the initiative

· Work closely with Platform leadership to executive consistent financial oversight and stewardship

· Author and manage development and organization of funder reports, dissemination reports, products, and papers of publishable quality for internal and external audiences

· Participate and report back on local, state, and national convenings related to the work and supportive of the goals of pertinent initiatives

General Support (5%)

· Direct the training and mentorship of staff and contributes to performance evaluations as requested

· Serve as a subject matter expert resource for the Cancer Prevention & Control Platform and the broader institution

· Support and work with other departments as needed to support the Institution's strategic goals

· Participate in meetings with external agencies as a representative of the team

· Lead and assist with ad hoc projects as needed

Other duties as assigned

Education

Required: Bachelor's degree.

Preferred: Master's degree in Public Health, Social Work, Education, Public Policy, Healthcare Administration, or related area.

Experience

Required: Five years related experience to include three years program management experience. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis. With preferred degree, three years of required experience.

Preferred: Experience in health education or health promotion program planning, management, and evaluation; community outreach; communications. Experience in clinic quality improvement, healthy communities or behavioral change interventions. Computer software skills including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access.
