Position Description
Kinder Morgan CO2 business unit is currently seeking a Production/Completions Engineer to support our CO2 development team that is currently focused on assets located in the Permian Basin. The position is based in Houston, TX with a flexible hybrid work schedule. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following: (1) Design well completions for new and existing producers and injectors as part of a new CO2 flood expansion project, (2) Develop the wellwork program for CO2 flood expansion programs and provide well reviews, scopes, cost, cashflows, and wellwork schedules for the recommended projects, (3) Maintain updated project cost estimates, provide cashflows, and report on major project updates (4) Provide best practices in wellwork operations for optimizations and cost reductions (5) Provide technical due-diligence regarding potential acquisition of new fields with the ongoing objectives as needed, and (6) Identifying additional opportunities in KM fields for testing and development. The candidate will be expected to frequently present findings to senior management, clearly articulate (and defend) recommended courses of action, and be able to align with EHS, technical and business drivers.
Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provide technical leadership in EOR project design and evaluation for CO2 flood expansion projects
Contribute to evaluation of mature fields for additional EOR potential with miscible CO2 flooding
Assist in evaluation of additional opportunities in other KM fields for primary and EOR potential.
Co-develop and support a consistent wellwork management strategy.
Position may be filled at various levels depending on experience and job skills of successful candidate.
Position Requirements
Educational Requirements (minimal requirements and any additional education or training that would be helpful):
Undergraduate (Bachelor level) degree from an accredited institution in Engineering is required.
Course of study in the discipline of Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Mechanical is preferred.
Job Requirements (specific experience, skills, knowledge, certifications, licenses, working conditions):
5+ years of experience in petroleum engineering or related fields.
Must be able to understand the needs of the business unit(s) for which development work is being performed
Experience with CO2 flooding or water flooding, EOR technologies, oil production diagnostics, design and optimization, including well stimulation, artificial lift (submersible and surface) and wellbore management.
Must have an ability to understand and integrate drilling, production analysis, geological, and reservoir analysis into completion programs.
Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal and leadership skills for interfacing with multifunctional E&P teams and management on multiple projects.
Strong project management skills with the ability to clearly define scope, objectives and activities as well as understand the importance of measuring results. Solid logic skills and bias towards action.
Experience and developing proficiency in well test analysis, well-log interpretation (CBL’s, calipers, GR/Neutron, etc), productivity analysis, nodal analysis,
Highly computer literate inclusive of MS-Office products.
Ability to work in a team, and have developing influence skills. Must be able to take direction from supervisor(s), prioritize work schedule, and focus attention on details.
Preferred Experience, Skills and Knowledge: (not required, but advantageous for this position)
Professional engineering registration or working towards same.
