Position Summary:
The Dai Lab in the Rice University Bioengineering department has an opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow. Our lab develops cutting-edge technologies in super-resolution microscopy and single-molecule biophysics. We apply interdisciplinary approaches (biophysical, biochemical and computational techniques), and push limits in all directions to improve sensitivity, multiplexity and throughput. Current focuses of the lab include multiplexed spatial proteomics and single-molecule protein sequencing.
This postdoctoral fellow is a grant funded position. The responsibilities for this position include design, conduct and report of scientific research, in the development of single-molecule protein sequencing and single-cell analysis.

Workplace Requirements
This position is exclusively on-site, necessitating all duties to be performed in-person at BioScience Research Collaborative 410 space. Per Rice policy 440 , work arrangements may be subject to change. This role is classified as an essential position, requiring on-site presence to effectively carry out its vital functions.
Hiring Range: $55,000-$65,000, commensurate with experience
This position is partially funded by a grant, soft and/or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of funding.
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD Degree in biophysics, physics, chemistry, systems, synthetic biology, or related field.
- No experience required.
Skills:
- Knowledge of basic chemistry and biochemistry skills, e.g. protein bioconjugation, UV-Vis spectroscopy, HPLC chromatography, glass surface modification
- Knowledge of molecular biology and fluorescence microscopy skills, e.g. PCR, gel electrophoresis, protein immunofluorescence, RNA-FISH
- Fluency in spoken English and academic communication
- Exceptional critical thinking, analytical skills, basic data analysis and statistical skills
- Ability to design, plan and conduct research effectively
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Essential Functions :
- Conducts research and experiments in single-molecule protein sequencing and other research projects.
- Performs protein biochemistry, oligo conjugation, microfluidic device engineering, surface modification chemistry, and other related experiments
- Facilitates protocol development for single-molecule protein sequencing and single-cell analysis
- Writes technical reports, academic papers, grant applications, participate and present research in local and national conferences
- Performs supportive lab duties and all other duties as assigned
Preferences:
- Experience with super-resolution microscopy, e.g. DNA-PA NT, STORM
- Experience with fluorescence microscopy skills, e.g. protein immunostaining, RNA-FISH
- Experience with microfluidic device design and manufacturing
- Experience with scientific programming and large dataset analysis, e.g. MATLAB, python, LabView
