Overview

Provide leadership in defining and implementing business and business development strategies for the Ports & Harbor and direct regional and/or national efforts accordingly. Assess and monitor client relationships and develop promotional concepts and research new market segments to curate business opportunities with both new and existing clients.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

  • Receive broad guidance from senior-level management relating to overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters and general parameters for execution. Manage people and processes to ensure effective execution and project deliveries to meet client expectations. Review work produced by staff for quality assurance.

  • Provide oversight and direction of department or business unit including strategy, budgeting, staff, and deliverables.

  • Provide input on the strategic direction of the Company.

At the Operational and Company Level

  • Identify, formulate, and provide execute strategic initiatives for the Ports & Harbor business growth aligned with the corporate long term strategic plan.

  • Represent and market Bowman’s capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships.

  • Provide leadership and direction in developing short- and long-term client relationships.

  • Provide input to management based on market information to enable the organization to develop capability in areas to give us strategic leverage for future projects.

  • Participate in other Company and operational initiatives on an ad hoc basis.

  • Maximize efficient use of staff and resources to promote Bowman and our services.

Do the Work

  • Implement and ensure positive interactions with clients and project teams.

  • Understand the client’s challenges and strategize on how the Company can provide value and services. Track and organize opportunities to be pursued nationwide.

  • Meet individual metric goals and continue to cultivate personal business development relationships.

  • Develop promotional concepts and new client business opportunities in all areas of service and all geographic locations.

  • Manage and maintain contractual agreements.

  • Guide, write, prepare, layout and produce qualifications packages, proposals, and presentation materials.

  • Gather and analyze market intelligence for new projects and opportunities.

  • Establish new business relationships through contact calls and industry events and maintain a pipeline of interested prospects for periodic follow-up and outreach.

  • Foster and develop positive customer relationships which result in increased business.

  • Conduct business research to determine customer needs and critical success factors.

  • Perform in-depth assessments to investigate, uncover, and understand a client’s business issues and develop/present project solutions to position Bowman to meet and exceed customer needs.

  • Perform analysis and lead discovery of adjacent opportunities.

  • Maximize contact with key accounts, key contacts and other critical people at various client organizations and focus efforts to obtain new work and generation of new enquiries for the business.

  • Maintain involvement throughout the balance of the sales and project delivery to maintain continuity of communication and relationship.

  • Identify and attend industry conferences to foster networking and source and qualify prospects. Attend conferences as a speaker and elevate the organization's position in the market.

  • Understand relevant legislation impacting the business and communities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related industry/field, or ability to demonstrate how commensurate education and experience apply to position.

  • Master’s or related advanced degree a plus.

  • Ten or more (10+) years of port operations, capital projects management, business development, sales, and marketing experience.

  • Five or more (5+) years of hands-on technical experience working with the AEC industry players preferred.

  • A demonstrated track record of creating new business opportunities.

  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation of proposals, marketing collaterals, and presentations.

  • Excellent leadership, networking, communication, project management, relationship building and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other applicable software tools necessary to perform job.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

  • May be eligible for hybrid or remote work arrangements.

  • Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.

  • Mobility around an office environment.

  • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

  • May require some out-of-the-area and overnight travel according to the needs of the business.

  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.

  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.

  • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
