Old Dominion Freight Line Manager - Cloud Platform Engineering in Houston, Texas

This role will serve as leader for the Cloud Platform Engineering team. Working closely with the Director of Enterprise Architecture, IT Application Delivery Leaders, and Operations Leaders, this role will lead the development and execution of Old Dominion’s strategy for supporting cloud-native platform capabilities.

This position is part of a team that is responsible for enabling significant organizational and technological change by providing a foundation for continuous integration, and delivery, of business capabilities with the goal of continuously improving Old Dominion’s ability to exceed our customer’s expectations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the IT Cloud Platform Engineering team

  • Act as a strategic solution advisor in collaboration with the IT Enterprise Architecture team

  • Lead programs to develop, maintain, and govern Continuous Integration and Delivery capabilities across the enterprise

  • Continuous Integration and Delivery through a Source-To-Image strategy

  • Application resiliency, high availability, and security

  • Application elasticity and scalability

  • Application management, monitoring, and alerting

  • Automation of Cloud Infrastructure provisioning, deployment, and scaling

  • Develop, socialize, and communicate IT Cloud platform standards.

  • Participate in the Architecture / Design Review Board processes

  • Direct the selection of appropriate technologies and patterns for the implementation of application hosting capabilities

  • Research and evaluate emerging technology, industry and market trends

  • Participate in producing the business case for leveraging emerging technology delivery processes and solutions

  • Oversee the creation of reference models for, and the adoption of, emerging technologies

  • Oversee the creation of reference models for, and the adoption of, emerging implementation patterns

  • Continuously develop new skills in order to stay current with the changing IT and Business landscape

  • Coach and mentor cloud platform engineers in the principles and practice of a DevOps culture

Job Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT engineering

  • Experience leading and managing a DevOps product or Engineering team

  • Direct experience in the architecture, engineering, and operation of PaaS and IaaS solutions

  • Experience with data management, architecture patterns, and large-scale application platforms

  • Experience with distributed computing environments

  • Experience in Network engineering

  • Experience with CI/CD and Infrastructure Automation patterns

  • Experience in the architecture, engineering, and operation of containerization and virtualization technologies

  • Experience with Application-to-Application integration

  • Aptitude for, desire to, and experience in managing and mentoring cloud developers and engineers

  • Exceptional partnering and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and self-pace work to meet required deadlines

Compensation Range:

The referenced salary range is based on the Company's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.

($139,078-$173,826)
