DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Coordinates fixed asset functions of a large service line with multiple branches. Assists team with providing consistent communication and information to the service branches. Provides support in acquiring, tracking, controlling and disposing of the City’s fixed assets in a manner that safeguards and allows for sound management of the public’s asset investment. Determines and creates assets classified as an asset system, group asset or individual property units and records accordingly. Adheres to guidelines for acquisition, maintenance, retention and disposition of fixed assets and associated records. Affixes inventory tags to designated assets and equipment and replaces damaged tags. Ensures inventory tags are used in sequential order to avoid duplicates or breaks in numerical order. Assist with maintaining a standardized list of items to be treated as controlled assets. Ensures perpetual inventory records are accurately maintained. Records fixed assets acquired with correct funding sources. Ensures inventory function adheres to Federal, State and City guidelines. Ensures guidelines and formal disposition instructions are followed for assets exceeding Federal and State accountability levels. Conducts periodic inventories of capital funded assets. Participates scheduled and periodic physical inventories by locating and counting assets, loading field inventory results and reconciling exceptions. Responds to asset audits requests as needed. Coordinates physical transfer/disposal of surplus and obsolete items. Performs disposal transactions to remove assets from service Identifies lost and stolen assets, conducts investigations and prepares and submits reports regarding alleged theft, misuse and/or problems encountered in property management. Oversees the safety shoe distribution for the service line. Maintains the IT Equipment Tracker for the branch. Conducts warehouse, Marketplace and SAP orders. Coordinates pickups and drop-off of supplies to branches. Assist with the vehicle maintenance for the branch pool vehicles. Assists in special projects as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items up to 40 lbs. and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis.

This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier III Level.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires an Associate's degree in Materials Management, Business Administration, Accounting or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

One year of experience in inventory control or materials management is required.

Two years of responsible experience in inventory control/materials management may be substituted for the degree requirement.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

None.

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.*
