WSP USA Early Career MIT Engineer in Houston, Texas

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Early Career Mechanical Integrity Test (MIT) Engineer for our Houston, TX office. Be involved in projects with our Underground Storage Energy and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.

Takes part in providing local petroleum engineering assistance for the design, development, construction, and permitting of infrastructure projects and systems in the public and private sector, specifically focusing on the execution, analysis and reporting of MIT pressure tests. Tasks may also include basic assistance with the research, design, analysis, concept development, construction, and/or servicing of underground storage caverns and related surface facilities, well permitting, drilling, solution mining technology, and cavern operations.

Your Impact

  • Under general supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data to support the planning, engineering, scheduling, and execution of underground energy storage projects.

  • Perform field work on storage caverns and disposal Injection wells throughout the United States which can include rigging up equipment onto wellheads, supervision of logging and injection operations, operating wellhead valves, and site supervision of field activities.

  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements and construction.

  • Assist with performing basic professional petroleum engineering work relating to development of underground storage caverns and facilities in both bedded and domal salt formations, potentially including tasks in well diagnostics and workover operations, well control, well snubbing, plugging and abandoning, wireline, coiled tubing operations, and onsite support.

  • Provide entry-level technical assistance on various design requirements and operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality of end-users, systems, and infrastructure.

  • Basic involvement in services provided by the WSP Energy group, field equipment applications and operations, and related practices including casing, well head, and cement design.

  • Support senior engineers and project managers to develop casing evaluations, root cause analysis findings, project controls, budgetary estimates, and project closeout reporting.

  • Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field/work site notebook/logs.

  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, location data, statistical documentation, engineering studies and surveys, and construction.

  • Complete training on assigned tasks.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline.

  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post education experience.

  • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.

  • Familiarity with related processes and concepts.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements; expected business-related travel to support field work varies but could be 50%.

  • Familiarity with relevant laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.

  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recent graduate or May 2025 graduate in an accredited Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related Undergraduate or Graduate program.

  • The successful candidate will have 0-3 years of internship experience in Mechanical Engineering or Petroleum Engineering.

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification.

  • Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD).

  • Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.

  • PMP Training.
