Sysco Customer Intelligence Data Analyst in HOUSTON, Texas

Position Purpose:

As the associate of market, customer and competitive intelligence, he/she will be responsible for executing critical market, customer and competitive intelligence initiatives from project planning to data analysis to model building to implementation. The individual must have very strong project management and analytical skills and ability to work with and influence associates across the organization. He/she must also be able to build tactical work plans based on strategic direction from his/her manager and maintain an outside in customer first mindset.

Primary Responsibilities:

Market Intelligence

  • Utilize data sets available to analyze and assess new market segments

  • Manage work plan to drive new segmentation approaches (market maps) which drive strategic action for the enterprise in all functional areas

  • Serve as CI lead on core in-market pilots (in collaboration with research and strategy teams) to help either prove Sysco’s ability to win in opportunity segments and/or inform what is required to be successful in these segments

  • Analyze financial reports, economic data, census inputs and other 3rd party data sets to identify new market insights Customer Intelligence

Customer Intelligence

  • Analyze trends, 3rd party data and primary research to help identify and understand which customers Sysco should win with over next 3-5 years within target market segments

  • Provide insights on how to win with top and emerging customers

  • Support development of how customer intelligence can integrate into various functional dashboards

Competitive Intelligence

  • Support the creation of Sysco’s CI vision and roadmap

  • Be core project team member to develop and implement an integrated competitive intelligence tool, training and process

  • Identify and evaluate potential industry disruptors and provide recommendation for how Sysco can compete with emerging competitors

  • Create and monitor a continuous feedback\listening tool to scale\share MA knowledge (working with research director) Support creation of outside in profit analysis of the competition regardless of ownership

  • Develop deep and ongoing understanding of each competitor's value proposition to inform future Sysco offers

Education:

  • BS/MS degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Market research or related field

Experience:

  • Experience: 1-2+ years in business strategy, intelligence, marketing, corporate analytics, market research or similar job function

Technical Skills and Abilities

  • Strong analytic and problem solving skills

  • Experience accessing and manipulating data in SQL or NoSQL database environments

  • Experience with regression analysis (beyond linear regression) or time-series analysis required

  • Experience in data visualization

  • Strong experience in identifying, understanding and leveraging 3rd party data sets to drive business insights

  • Ability to understand and analyze competitive and customer P&Ls

  • Ability to develop work plans and support cross functional teams to achieve a common goal

  • Demonstrated ability to approach problem solving in an “unconventional” way

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

  • Self starter with strong ability to manage and develop team members

  • Professional attitude, service orientation, strong work ethic; superb team player

  • Excels in nebulous environments where the path to address a problem is not always clear or direct

  • Approaches every problem with an outside in perspective first and does not allow the status quo to influence analysis
