Sodexo Construction Cost Estimator I in HOUSTON, Texas

Sodexo is seeking Construction Cost Estimator I to work with one of Sodexo’s construction management/cost control teams at one of our largest energy accounts. This position will be located in Houston, Texas. This person will primarily handle cost estimates for a portfolio of projects within the Houston area. We are looking for someone with strong technical skills in Project Management tools; with experience in providing project cost estimates for large to small-value projects that are often complex in terms of delivery and phasing. Construction Cost Estimator I will assist in developing and preparing conceptual estimates for a portfolio of projects by utilizing RS Means and similar databases and establishing and maintaining cost-tracking reports and project data. Organizes and updates reporting methodology and project cost tracking. Coordinates data with cost and schedule for accurate reporting and tracking. Works with professional employees, technical or business support, or production operations team(s). Decisions are guided by policies, procedures, and business plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing conceptual estimates using limited preliminary design documents and information

  • Provide support to Project Managers in reviewing contractor change proposal requests, as needed

  • Reviewing and/or recommending substitution of materials, products, methods, etc., as needed, and also evaluating proposed value engineering solutions

  • Compile and maintain a cost database based on historical project costs

  • Assist with identifying potential vendors and suppliers for various services, products, etc.

  • Assist with the preparation of project descriptions for bid packages and RFPs to help enhance contractors' understanding of project complexities and objectives

  • Assist with contractor bid scoping to validate and align bids/proposals according to project specifics

  • Assist with the collection of actual miscellaneous project costs in support of program needs, e.g., risk management, finance, audit, etc.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (or associate degree with relevant experience)

  • Construction/project management experience with cost estimates in new construction, renovations, and infrastructure

  • Knowledge and experience utilizing RS Means

  • Demonstrated high level of verbal and written communication skills is a must.

  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

  • Must have the ability to communicate technical material to a non-technical audience.

  • Proficient in Project Management software, and financial accounting systems.

  • Knowledge of Procore, Smartsheet, and MS Project is a plus.

  • Strong Personal Computer working capabilities in MS Office (excel, word, PowerPoint, Adobe Writer, Visio, and basic Windows environment).
