Honeywell BESS Controls Offering Manager in Houston, Texas

The ideal candidate will have relevant experience in Control Systems leading a product management or an engineering organization for a large and complex organization.

In addition, we are looking for a candidate who can drive results, has excellent collaboration and influencing skills to work within Honeywell’s matrixed organization. S/he should be effective at working across business units, functions and at various levels and in a global environment. S/he should thrive in an intense, results oriented environment.

The BESS Controls Offering Manager is a key member of the Battery Energy Storage Systems vertical at Honeywell Process Solutions (HPS) and reports to Director, Energy Management Portfolio. This role is primarily responsible for product management including planning, strategy, development and proposal of controls solutions. This includes understanding internal and external customer needs, market trends and potential growth opportunities in FTM and BTM segments along with the respective product requirements; the selection of technology based on upcoming market and customer needs; and the business development aspects of the Controls product, such as timelines, cross-functional collaboration, process related deliverables i.e document releases, collaboration with sales and marketing for customer presentations, event participation, leadership presentations, forecasts and product readiness reviews. Additionally, the BESS Controls Offering Manager, should have a clear and precise understanding of varying market needs depending on the region and must be able to identify product requirement for Utilities, Industrial and Commercial segments.

This is a hybrid role out of our Houston location (3 days on-site, 2 days remote)

Specific job activities include:

  • Develop controls strategy and roadmap.

  • Define, maintain, and interpret product requirements related to control systems including various configurations.

  • Create/modify product requirements based on customer feedback and lessons learned from engineering, manufacturing, sales, project delivery and services.

  • Work with teams worldwide to analyze requirements and find commonalities and differences in local and regional requirements.

  • Develop business case for investments and gain internal approval, including new product, new component, new technology, new manufacturing and new supplier investments, etc.

  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional engineering and NPI program teams in day-to-day problem solving, enabling teams to successfully progress towards targets and ensure delivery of program milestones aligning with business requirements.

  • Drive implementation of cross functional portfolio development for the new energy management BTI.

  • Drive new product introductions through release process. Responsible for milestone reviews of the release process. Verify product deliverables against product requirements.

  • Product development and execution of offering solutions.

  • Own product-level cost models and coordination with product cost management team to achieve competitive cost positions while balancing functionality and compliance needs.

  • Responsible for product/component cost and configurations in product standard offering guidance.

  • Ensure product documentation development aligns with customer’s project development needs and expectations.

  • Support customer engagement and development of relationships with key clients.

  • Develop core positioning and messaging for the product.

  • Provide contents for product marketing to develop marketing collateral, such as product specifications, data sheets, key applications, etc.

  • Identify opportunities to increase customer value through joint hardware, software, controls, services and analytics work.

  • Monitor technology trends and identify opportunities to bring in new technologies and investments.

  • Benchmark competitor’s products and offerings and communicate with rest of the team.

  • Optimize prioritization of development activities of product requirements to maximize Honeywell’s competitive differentiation.

  • Support regional sales and marketing teams in customer conversations around BESS and control solutions, including Energy Management System (EMS).

  • Advise on partnership and M&A strategy including participating in due diligence discussions.

  • Understand Honeywell’s controls offerings and identify industry practices to provide guidance to the organization on the application of new technologies.

  • Understand and advise on the role of control system and energy management system in BESS projects.

  • Contribute to and help maintain technical specifications of our offerings.

  • Mentor other less experienced staff and provide support and guidance to project teams.

  • Maintain knowledge of applicable codes & standards and certifications in the energy storage and renewable industry.

Must Have:

  • 7+ year’s experience in product management, control systems, EMS, energy storage or related role, with a BS in a technical field such as engineering.

  • Clear understanding of controls logic, BMS, MODBUS TCP/IP, Ethernet and Microgrid Controllers.

  • Expertise in the area of Energy Management System (EMS), Power Plant Controller (PPC), PS CAD, SCADA, ADR/APR and Blackstart, etc.

  • Proven track record of successfully managing, developing and launching product offerings.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in leading engineering teams to achieve ambitious targets.

  • Passion for using data and statistics to drive decision-making.

  • Demonstrates sound business judgment.

  • Takes individual initiative and works with minimal supervision while being a collaborative team player.

  • Strong leadership and people management skills.

  • Works dynamically, across multiple teams and projects concurrently, in a technical and business environment.

  • Possesses an entrepreneurial drive for getting things done and a “whatever it takes” attitude.

  • Proactive approach with critical thinking, excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders at all levels.

  • Possesses strong executive and interpersonal communications skills to coordinate with diverse internal and external teams worldwide.

  • Experience with old and new energy applications (fossil fuels, biofuels, green H2, energy storage, etc.)

  • Available and willing to travel up to 30% of the time
