MD Anderson Cancer Center Associate Director, Revenue Cycle Systems in Houston, Texas

The Associate Director in the department of Revenue Cycle Systems/Support is accountable for overseeing the EHR Resolute Hospital Billing and EHR Resolute Professional Billing teams who manage and support all application workflows for revenue cycle processes within the institution. This position, reporting to the Executive Director, Clinical and Business Solutions, is responsible for providing strategic oversight of their managers and teams as they support system resiliency, mitigate application risks, manage resource availability, and deploy enhanced system functionality. This position ensures that all EHR ambulatory and access systems support the mission, goals, and operations of the institution and are provided in a timely, accurate, creative and cost effective manner. The Associate Director will work collaboratively with colleagues from various technical and operational areas to improve the quality, integration and availability of information to ensure the successful implementation and support of the institution's overall revenue cycle and financial strategy. Areas of collaboration for this Associate Director include, ambulatory and access departments and system owners/ diagnostic imaging / laboratory / pathology departments, system architecture teams, and teams engaged in system development and integration. The Associate Director will also work with vendors and participate in the negotiation of contracts and professional service agreements. The Associate Director is responsible for the department strategy and leadership, which includes the support and oversight of managers, team leads, development, critical system implementations, and personnel matters. This position will also assist the Executive Director with the creation and management of the annual department budget according to IS Division guidelines.

Domain Expertise

Demonstrates knowledge and expertise in IT system implementation and support for ambulatory clinical workflows and patient access workflows and business strategies.

  • Has knowledge and understanding of leading industry revenue cycle workflows for both professional and technical services, and can guide teams of technical analysts on ways of implementing and supporting systems that are used within both clinical and business operational settings.

  • Has experience working with Epic's billing and backend applications (Resolute HB, Resolute PB, Claims, etc.)

  • Provides and articulates resource requirements (financial, technical, human resource), risk analysis and impact of requested information system projects on the institution to the appropriate TDI leadership group and/or IS governance committee.

  • Manages the EHR revenue cycle managers so that appropriate human resources are available and scheduled to accomplish priorities established by the appropriate operational area, IS Division, and/or governance committee.

  • Proactively resolves issues encountered during and post system implementation, working with all levels of personnel both internal and external to the institution.

  • Oversees the evaluation of new technologies/software/vendors that may provide opportunities for solutions or new applications necessary to accomplish institutional goals, objectives and strategies, particularly in the area of ambulatory and access operations in supporting the institution.

  • Works collaboratively with the Executive Director to maintain project financial accountability by preparing, presenting, auditing and/or reconciling IT project budgets (operational/capital).

  • Works collaboratively with the Executive Director to ensure the annual department performance aligns closely with the department operating budget by taking corrective action when appropriate/necessary.

  • Participates in meetings and works with customers as appropriate to maintain working knowledge of institutional operations, policies, and industry guidelines.

Resource Management

  • Responsible for the hiring of Managers and Project Managers and Analysts as needed.

  • Manages the department staff in absence of managers to maintain continuity of work and priorities.

  • Provides and articulates resource requirements (financial, technical and human resource), risk analysis and impact of requested information system projects to the appropriate revenue cycle, finance, and TDI governing bodies where appropriate.

  • Coaches and mentors managers and where needed team members to continuously improve technical, business analytic, and customer service skills.

  • Promotes professional growth and development through leadership activities and continuing education and training

Leadership/ Program Management

  • Collaborates with operational leadership to ensure quality assurance processes are leveraged for revenue cycle applications and processes that are implemented and supported by the Resolute HB and PB teams.

  • Assists the Executive Director, in the formulation of a department strategy, operating plans, and budgets on a regular basis.

  • Ensures processes are established and performed for root cause analysis and continuous improvement within the Revenue Cycle Systems/Support department.

  • Proactively resolves issues encountered during and after the implementation of initiatives, working with all levels of personnel both internal and external to the institution.

  • Assumes fiscal responsibility, including budgetary monitoring for the department.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director, Clinical and Business Solutions.

Education Required: Bachelor's degree.

Preferred Education: Master's Level Degree

Preferred Certification: Epic certification in either Resolute HB or PB

Experience Required : Seven years of information technology experience to include five years of supervisory/management experience. May substitute required education with additional years of experience on a one-to-one basis. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience.

Preferred Experience:

  • 3 years of direct leadership experience in revenue cycle systems support or operations for a large academic medical institution

  • Minimum of 10 years in a Healthcare IT environment providing application support and projects for clinical revenue cycle or financial systems.

  • Management experience with Epic Resolute Hospital Billing, Resolute Professional Billing, and Claims modules.

  • Experience working with senior and middle management and care providers in a team-oriented capacity.

  • Must have demonstrated experience working in a matrixed reporting environment.

  • Strong presentation skills and ability to present complex system technologies and applications to diverse audiences, including senior executive management.

  • Demonstrated experience successfully overseeing contractor personnel.
