MD Anderson Cancer Center Associate Director, Prospect Development in Houston, Texas
The Prospect Development team plays a crucial role in advancing MD Anderson's fundraising efforts by focusing on identifying, researching, and strategically managing potential major donors. Prospect Development conducts in-depth prospect research to uncover key information about potential donors, analyzing data to identify trends and opportunities, and crafting strategies to effectively engage and solicit major gifts. The team collaborates closely with frontline fundraisers to ensure alignment between donor prospects and organizational goals, participates in portfolio reviews to optimize donor engagement, and contributes to the development of comprehensive fundraising strategies. A strong partnership with Business Solutions and a solid understanding of donor databases is essential for managing and leveraging donor information effectively. The Prospect Development team is integral in driving successful fundraising initiatives and enhancing donor relations.
The primary purpose of the Associate Director, Philanthropy is to assist the division with prospect management, focusing on managing, tracking, and reporting on activities with its constituent and prospect pools, and making recommendations to positively influence fundraising activity.
The ideal candidate would have experience utilizing dashboards and data visualization platforms for a holistic view of fundraising activities. Importantly, this candidate must have an innate sense of curiosity while recognizing connections between and among pieces of information. This candidate would have proven success in managing multiple projects with competing and/or shifting priorities while maintaining a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
KEY FUNCTIONS
Programmatic Project Execution (40%)
Consistently deliver skillful execution of team-specific work with an eye toward continuous improvement, while being aware of the impact of the team's work on and in partnership with others.
Provide ongoing prospect management, which includes facilitating the prospect assignment process to ensure balanced and viable portfolios, as well as portfolios that are in line with the established policies and procedures. Serve as primary contact for various incoming lead referrals, which includes responsibility for ensuring gift officer assignment and follow-up.
Regularly monitor, review, and perform data hygiene activities for the fundraising team to ensure data integrity and reporting accuracy.
Assist with continuing customization and development of our Salesforce system as it relates to Prospect Management business practices.
Collaboration and Teaming (40%)
Actively partner with donors, peers, faculty, and divisional leadership on strategy development, strategy execution, and other projects. Develop networks and engage in cross-functional activities to deliver stakeholder engagement. Work co-operatively with all stakeholders, contribute to the success of collaborative work teams, and support the completion of initiatives or projects to achieve stated goals.
- Coordinate Prospect Management activities for designated fundraising team(s), including but not limited to, attending strategy meetings, assisting with event strategies, educating team members on Prospect Management functions, and serving as a liaison between Prospect Management and the assigned fundraising team(s). Develop supportive and productive relationships with philanthropy staff and other staff involved in fundraising.
Perception and Attentiveness (20%)
Accurately assess interests, organize, and present information in thoughtful and engaging ways, constantly shifting between multiple activities and sources of information, maintain situational awareness, cultural awareness, and institutional awareness, and adeptly navigate cross-functional teams in support of team and division plans.
Conduct multi-year portfolio reviews with assigned gift officers to ensure strong portfolios and facilitate the movement of prospects through the solicitation cycle, as well as participate in Goal Plan reviews for gift officers.
Provide management with tools, such as reporting and analysis, to assist them in making data-driven decisions. Assists with the creation and ongoing development of these tools. Collaborate with Systems and Reporting to continue to enhance the capability to track and report on prospect and portfolio activity to inform strategy.
Provide leadership and direction to future Prospect Management staff, in addition to project leadership for various enhancements to prospect management processes, reports, scoring and analyses.
EDUCATION
Required: Bachelor's degree in Advertising, Marketing, or related field.
EXPERIENCE
Required: Four or more years experience in fundraising/non-profit, government agency, marketing, advertising, or public relations, law, healthcare or related industry.
Preferred: Four or more years of prospect research and/or management experience. In-depth knowledge of data analytics, reporting/visualization tools, and CRM integration and related tools.
