The Role: Associate Director - Energy Scenarios
The Team:
This role sits in the S&P Global Commodity Insights, Energy Scenarios team. This is a well-established team responsible for producing the integrated energy scenarios that underpins the analytics bundled under the “Carbon and Scenarios” service offering within the Energy Transition portfolio. This person will be responsible for working with their peers and seniors to manage the scenario models: one base case, and three to four alternative scenarios. This person will also support a portfolio of consulting engagements where the team produces bespoke scenarios and associated analytics for clients and support them throughout the year for their bespoke needs.
The model captures energy demand, supply and trade actions under different policy landscapes over a 100+ countries along with regional aggregates and the world. The service includes the model outputs alongside periodical analytics, sensitivity visuals and scenario manager functionality. It includes the full energy balances and GHG emissions multiple sectors and fuels, over short-, medium-, and long-term timeframe. The model uses an internally developed demand solver and Gurobi for supply and trade solves.
The Impact:
This is an important role in one of our fastest growing business areas – Energy Transition. This person will play a key role in delivering our portfolio of energy scenarios consulting work for several Fortune 500 clients. The core scenarios and the consulting work are intertwined in that expertise gained in scenarios modelling is then applied in consulting to create bespoke deliverables for our consulting clients. Additionally, launch of the new Integrated Energy Scenarios (IES) offering in Q1 2025 will provide new opportunities to continuously incorporate the voice of the customer into the product roadmap.

Responsibilities:
Energy modelling work
Help to maintain and update historic energy balances, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data, supply and trade information and other key data sets for a range of countries.
Produce energy balance and GHG projections for multiple scenarios based on key drivers that need to be updated and aligned across different teams for a range of countries – including research into the countries’ energy and environmental policies and future supply and trade outlooks.
Work with other teams within SPGI to align outlooks, provide input to different projects and produce variations, sensitivities and alternative scenarios.
Perform statistical analysis of data sets, including econometric estimations, to refresh estimations and improve the modelling work.
Reporting
Collaborating with key stakeholders to continuously monitor, track, and report country projections – energy balances and GHG emissions
Customer Management
Build strong relationships with customers, including developing relationships for long-term partnerships and value creation
Demonstrate effective communication with customers through clear and succinct verbal and written communications and strong presentation skills
Ability to plan, scope, and deliver consulting engagements with a focus on quality and customer delight
Stakeholder Management
Build strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders in research and analytics, technology and data, consulting, and product management; demonstrating ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve meaningful results in a timely manner
Ability to plan, scope, and deliver roadmap enhancements with a focus on quality and timeliness
What We’re Looking For:
University Degree (or equivalent) required in a quantitative field such as Energy, Economics, and Statistics. Master’s Degree strongly preferred
The ability to mine, model, and interpret multiple large data sets; advanced Excel and Python skills highly desirable
Solid knowledge and experience in advanced energy scenarios modeling; knowledge of demand and supply modeling and linear programming toolsets, e.g., EViews and Gurobi desirable
Proven ability to plan and manage projects and stakeholders, delivering high quality results within planned timescales.
