Assistant Director, Student Involvement & Leadership

Description

The Assistant Director of Student Involvement and Leadership helps to develop and coordinate meaningful student experiences through oversight of campus programming and student organization development. This position regularly collaborates with campus partners on new and existing programs and events. The Assistant Director will help manage daily office operations and processes, support staff hiring, and training and development. The Assistant Director also oversees policies, procedures, and risk management, and assists with unit strategic budget, planning, and assessment.

Duties:

  • Oversees the development, planning, promotion, and implementation of large-scale campus events hosted by the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership. Stays current with trends and innovations in student involvement and the campus experience. Supports late night and weekend programs as needed.

  • Oversees student organization administration, including organization registration, student organization handbook, event registration process, risk management policies and procedures, access to campus resources, and addressing organizational issues.

  • Provides supervision and leadership to student involvement team. Assists Director with ongoing training and professional development of professional and staff, including but not limited to monthly all-staff, biannual retreats, professional development plans, and conference opportunities.

  • Manages and maintains the student engagement platform. Serves as campus administrator, providing guidance and support to UHCL students, faculty, and staff. Responsible for ongoing training and access for campus partners, and student leaders utilizing platform.

  • Assists the Director in the management of the department’s budget, implementation of assessment plan and reports, program research, creation of annual reports, and participation in the strategic planning process.

  • Assists the Director with management of unit office space, student organization center and lounge (SOCAL), fee-funded offices, the Student Lounge, and assigned meeting spaces. Manages and maintains SOCAL resources and student organization carrel spaces.

  • Leads department internal and external communications, marketing, representation at university-wide programs, presentations, and planning committee meetings. Acts as point of contact and department lead in the Director’s absence.

  • Oversees the recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of office student staff, including student leaders and undergraduate or graduate student staff. Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  1. Master's degree.

  2. Minimum three years full-time experience in a related field.

  3. Knowledge of student development theories and practices.

  4. Knowledge of budget management and fiscal responsibility.

  5. Knowledge of strategic planning and program alignment with institution goals and priorities.

  6. Clear, precise, and effective oral/written communication skills as well as being comfortable speaking in large and small group settings.

  7. Strategic thinker with excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage several projects simultaneously.

  8. Skills in collaborative event planning and coordination.

  9. Ability to lead, oversee, and supervise the activities of others.

  10. Ability to work independently and collaboratively on a team.

  11. Ability to examine student needs and interpret it into strategic solutions for department.

Desired:

Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Educational Leadership or related field.

Five or more years of experience working with campus programs, events, student organizations or related experiences.

Experience working with Anthology Engage or other student engagement platforms.

Strong knowledge of student development theory and best practices in higher education.

Experience supervising full-time employees.

Bilingual Skillset.
