The Senior Research Scientist I will complete organizational and readiness tasks, and laboratory work, in the Process Sciences Business Unit. The senior research scientist will use research knowledge to effectively plan and manage day-to-day work cycle operations of a project; stays current with changes in applicable field. Ability to solve problems and develop new methodology, to purify a variety of biologics using classical and contemporary procedures.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be able to work with limited guidance to plan and execute studies and be able to perform routine maintenance on instruments and equipment. Primary duties and responsibilities include:
SME for purification of biomolecules using mammalian and/or insect systems.
Lead direct reports in upstream process development.
Characterize samples using HPLC, UPLC, Octet and DLS.
Perform filtration process development studies (depth filtration, UF/DF)
Purify biologics via pump or AKTA-based chromatography
Provide general lab support and management.
Communicate project updates and technical reports to supervisor and senior level management.
Identify and promptly troubleshoot technical issues.
Keen in learning new methods and techniques.
Flexibility to multi-task across numerous scientific disciplines
Qualifications
The incumbent will be responsible for developing purification parameters to support R&D level programs and Protein manufacturing. The employee will be responsible for general lab support, executing projects within the laboratory, writing study/research plans, and summarizing data to clients and colleagues via technical reports. The position requires a drive to provide outstanding customer service by maintaining regular communications with clients, as well as meeting or exceeding quality and timeline expectations.
5 - 8 Years with BS, 3 - 6 Years with MS, 0 - 3 Years in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biology, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering.
Experience in protein purification along with the knowledge of AKTA systems is a must.
Expertise in mammalian and/or insect expression systems (Wave and bioreactor) is a plus.
Experience with Octet, TFF systems, HPLC/UPLC is a plus.
Implements work plans; conducts performance reviews with the assistance of a higher-level manager. Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions.
Plans work to meet personal project objectives and deadlines; assesses the needs and makes changes in process, work flow and/or assignments. Coordinates multiple, concurrent assignments on a multi-faceted research project.
Leads exchange of research information through technical assistance and instruction. Contributes to preparation of publications, reports or experimental protocols; makes presentations.

Biohazards and chemical hazards,
universal precautions,
biohazardous and chemical wastes,
Defining critical parameters, and scale and optimize downstream processes for:
protein purification, in the 0.01 to 100 g range, including:
phase separation,
free-standing columns, AKTA™ or single-use membranes or columns,
manual and/or automated column packing and chromatography systems with columns having radii in 5 to 30 cm range,
chromatography and fraction collection by:
affinity,
ion exchange,
hydrophobic interaction,
size exclusion
immobilized metal affinity,
mixed mode,
tangential flow and depth filtration in the 10 to 500 L range,
protein characterization, including:
high- and ultra-high-pressure liquid chromatography,
UV/Vis spectroscopy,
dynamic light scattering,
SDS-PAGE and immunoblotting,
Octet™,
process and product impurity assays for: endotoxin,
Protein formulation studies
