Jennie Stuart Medical Center, Inc. Senior Accountant-Full Time in Hopkinsville, Kentucky

Jennie Stuart Health is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Accountant to join our finance team. As a Senior Accountant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy of financial records, compliance with accounting standards, and providing financial insights to support the organization's decision-making process. This full-time, regular position is ideal for a detail-oriented individual who thrives in a dynamic healthcare environment. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for preparing financial statements, conducting monthly and year-end closings, and analyzing financial data. You will also oversee accounting operations, including the review of journal entries, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Your expertise will be crucial in developing and implementing accounting policies and procedures to improve financial processes and reporting. Additionally, you will assist with budget preparation, financial audits, and tax filings. Collaborating with the finance team, you will ensure financial reporting is in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and provide guidance on financial matters to various departments within the organization. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, excellent communication skills, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality. As a Senior Accountant at Jennie Stuart Health, you will contribute to our mission of providing exceptional healthcare services by ensuring the financial health and integrity of our organization. This position reports directly to the Controller.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Ensures accounting duties are performed in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and with hospital accounting policies.

  • Prepares journal entries.

  • Oversees month-end financial closing process including financial statement preparation.

  • Analyze and reconcile data posted in General Ledger for accuracy and integrity.

  • Creates budget variance analysis and provides feedback.

  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and account analysis.

  • Prepares bank account reconciliations.

  • Prepares FTE reports.

  • Prepares Quarterly 941, Annual W-2, and Annual 1099 reconciliations and filings.

  • Assist in the coordination and preparation for year-end audits by independent accountants.

  • Assist in year-end Medicare and Medicaid cost reporting and year-end tax reporting.

  • Assists in the annual budget process.

  • Performs ad-hoc and other analysis as requested.

  • Provide support and backup to accounts payable and payroll as needed.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in the healthcare industry.

Required Experience

  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.

  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Experience with budget preparation and financial analysis.

  • Knowledge of tax codes and regulations.

  • Commitment to ethical financial practices and maintaining confidentiality.

  • Experience with report creation is a plus
