Position Overview:
This position offers a sign on bonus for current Licensed Class B Drivers with Bus and Passenger Endorsements.
Blake’s school bus drivers are a dynamic link within the Blake Community tasked with the safe transport of pupils to and from school. Position is based on a 20-hour workweek with each day split into two, 2-hour route shifts with the possibility of additional charter hours assigned periodically.
Essential Functions:
Reports to Transportation Manager
Receive direction from transportation dispatcher
Daily transportation of school-age children to and from home, centralized pick-up points and school campuses
Transportation of school-age children to and from school campuses and field trip locations
Responsible for insuring the safety and security of students, which may include directing and assisting in evacuation of the bus
Clean and fuel buses
Conduct pre-trip inspection of school buses
Attend monthly safety training classes
Participate in ongoing pre-trip, driving and emergency procedures evaluations
Team Participation:
The Blake bus driver is expected to provide ongoing feedback to management on the efficiency of the route assigned to him/her. Additionally, the bus driver will actively interact with other transportation team members aiding in the ongoing business collaboration of the transportation team and it responsibilities.
Required Experience:
Required:
Strong Customer service skills - ability to interact with students and parents in a friendly and professional manner
Must be at least 21 years of age
Strong work ethic centered on maintaining schedules, mutual respect and teamwork
Successful completion of a criminal background check
Clean motor vehicle record history
Ability to be medically certified to drive a school bus by the Department of Transportation and any Blake School mandated physical testing
Class B commercial driver’s license with passenger and school bus endorsements or the ability to obtain Class B commercial license. (Will help train the right individual)
Ability to engage, interact and communicate with children and their parents
Preferred:
Prior professional driving experience (preferably school bus)
General mechanical knowledge and experience with Minnesota School bus rules and regulations
Physical Requirements:
Able to sit for periods of time up to three hours
Able to lift up to 40 lbs
Ability to bend and stoop
Ability to pass Blake School’s Driver Ability Assessment
Ability to perform duties in extreme weather conditions
Ability to evacuate school children from school bus in an emergency
Free of impairment of an arm, foot or leg which interferes with the ability to perform normal tasks associated with operating a school bus
No established medical history or clinical diagnosis of rheumatic, arthritic, orthopedic, muscular, neuromuscular, or vascular disease which interferes with the ability to operate and control a school bus
Required to submit to, and pass mandated illegal substance drug testing prior to beginning work and randomly through the term of your employment with the school

Pay Range:
$28.00 per hour starting pay
Eligible increase to $29.00 per hour after one year of successful employment
This salary range includes the expected annual salary for this position. In making a salary determination, we consider professional experience, applicable qualifications and other job-related factors. Based on these factors, a candidate's salary offer could exceed this range.
