We are seeking a dedicated Safety Lead to join our team. The Safety Lead will be responsible for overseeing the safety protocols and procedures within our organization to ensure a secure work environment at the Pellet Mills, which manufactures the wood pellets for outdoor cooking.

Duties:

  • Responsible for the implementation of the safety programs, policies, and procedures at the individual pellet plant facilities.
  • Conducts training in the pellet plant facilities, including safety orientations for new hires.
  • Conducts routine inspections across the pellet mill facility to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Conducts regular audits of existing safety protocols, identify areas for improvement, and ensure optimal safety levels are maintained.
  • Conduct thorough investigations of accidents or near-miss incidents, identify root causes, and implement measures to prevent recurrence. Compile and submit accident reports required by regulatory agencies, with reviews by the Environmental, Health and Safety Manager, Plant Manager, Director of Operations.
  • Responsible for acquiring, maintaining, and ensuring the proper use of safety equipment throughout the pellet mill facility.
  • Foster opens communication channels between management and team members, emphasizing the importance of safety measures.
  • Promotes a culture of safety awareness and responsibility among all Dansons team members at the pellet mill facility.
  • Attending monthly update meetings with the Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager and Danson CEO.
  • Tracking of the key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of safety initiatives.
  • Encourages feedback from team members to continually improve safety measures.
  • Provides support regarding new hire training on specific equipment.
  • Coordinates safety drills and emergency response plans for the pellet mill facility.
  • Respond to safety concerns and complaints from the pellet mill facility team members, utilizing the Safety Action Request process. Act as a professional liaison with regulatory agencies when directed by the Plant Manager or Environmental, Health and Safety Manager.
  • Coordinates and facilitates programs to train managers and team members in work site safety a in accordance with Dansons and W. C. Bradley Co. policies; local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
  • Facilitates posting information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of safety hazards or elevate safety awareness.
  • Assists pellet mill leadership and injured team members in complying with Dansons modified duty or return to work (RTW) programs.
  • Attending monthly update meeting with Environmental, Health and Safety Manager and Dansons CEO.
  • Maintains office bulletin board and updates posting compliance.
  • Processes documents requiring office procedural knowledge. Reviews documents and obtains necessary signatures and routes appropriately.
  • Maintains and tracks issues within the monthly facility inspection files.
  • Maintains OSHA 300 log, DOT accident registers, and accident and injury files.
  • Assists with new hire orientation training program.
  • Assists and provides information to workers comp adjusters and site claim managers on injury claims.
  • Assists property damage claim repairs.
  • Coordinates information with claim adjusters and site claim managers on vehicle claims.
  • Assists with scheduling and management of return to duty (light duty) program.
  • Provides management with timely accident/injury trending and other compliance reports as requested.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer onboarding, mentoring, performance and talent management, employee relations and culture, occupational health and safety, and training and development.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Respond to safety concerns and complaints from team members at the pellet mill facility, utilizing the Safety Action Request process.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary.

Requirements:

Required: High School diploma or equivalent. Preferred: College degree in a related field.

Minimum Education required and four (4) years related work experience or

Seven (7) years related work experience, leading administrative, health & safety initiatives and implementing a safety culture in a manufacturing or industrial setting.

Wood products manufacturing experience a plus.

Certification in EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) is preferred.

Ability to develop and effectively deliver safety training to all levels of team members.

Experience building positive working relationships with both hourly and salaried team members.

Strong working knowledge of OSHA and Strong leadership and coaching skills.
