Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST), Department of Oceanography, Marine Geology and Geochemistry, located in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Telework (from employees residence city and state) may be permissible subject to review and approval by Principal Investigator and RCUH. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MONTHLY SALARY: $6,000/Mon.

DUTIES: Creates and disseminates knowledge concerning ocean biogeochemistry and the influence of trace metals on ocean life, in collaboration with the Schmidt Sciences SUBSEA project. Conducts laboratory analyses to quantify biogeochemical cycles of important metals and nutrients. Prepares and conducts research at sea, and participates in research cruises with up to two (2) months of international travel per cruise. Reports scientific results from research projects through talks at national and international meetings, and scientific papers in peer-reviewed literature. Assists undergraduate and graduate students with related projects and participates in laboratory work at sea.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:


EDUCATION PhD from an accredited college or university in Oceanography, Environmental Science, Geochemistry or a related field. (PhD candidates may apply but must submit evidence of PhD completion upon hire).

EXPERIENCE One to three (1-3) years of previous research

experience in chemical oceanography, ocean biogeochemistry, marine geochemistry, or a related field.

KNOWLEDGE Extensive

knowledge in either ocean biogeochemical cycles. Working knowledge of data analysis techniques and data visualization.

ABILITIES and SKILLS Strong ability to conduct research and work collaboratively with colleagues. Strong communication and scientific writing skills demonstrated by a record of publishing research results in peer-reviewed journals, or other documented records of achievement. Must be able to work in remote locations outside of the country for extended periods of time. Ability to effectively conduct work remotely (e.g., telework) as applicable. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months.

PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS Must be able to perform job duties onboard research vessels for extended periods of time. Able to lift and carry up o twenty-five (25) pounds unassisted.
