Queen's Health System Endoscopic Procedure Technician - Endoscopy (Full-Time, 40, Day/Evening) in Honolulu, Hawaii
RESPONSIBILITIES
I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Performs a variety of special endoscopic and interventional procedures.
• Provides patient care during procedures under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN)/Provider.
II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking.
• Frequent: standing, lifting and pushing/pulling maximum 30 pounds of force; carrying usual weight of 10 pounds; reaching above, at and below shoulder level; repetitive arm/hand motions, static gripping of an object for prolonged periods, frequent gripping on an object.
• Frequent: walking.
• Occasional: stooping/bending, kneeling, crawling, climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground, squatting, twisting body.
III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
• Subjected to noise/vibration from radiographic equipment noise.
• Exposure to body fluids, communicable diseases, moving mechanical parts, chemicals, radiation, odors and skin irritants.
• Work environment is fast paced, frequently stressful; works on multiple tasks and priorities at the same time and requires critical decision-making.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA) Associate’s Program and recognized as a GI Technical Specialist (GTS). If not recognized as a GTS, educational requirement must be obtained within twelve (12) months of entrance into the position.
• Current BLS certification
B. EXPERIENCE:
• One (1) year experience as an Endoscopic Procedure Technician, preferably in a comparable medical center; OR, one (1) year experience in Sterile Processing or providing direct patient care, such as Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, etc., and demonstrated ability to perform duties and responsibilities of job.
• Experience to demonstrate basic knowledge of aseptic technique.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing.
• Knowledge of automated systems preferred.
• Experience in cleaning and disinfection of instruments/scopes preferred.
