Queen's Health System Coordinator, Disinfect & Sterilize - Infection Prevention Control (Full-Time, 40, Day) in Honolulu, Hawaii

RESPONSIBILITIES

I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Is responsible for the direct day to day oversight of key initiatives and programs designed to prevent infections and promote patient safety specifically related to high level disinfection and sterilization of medical instrumentation for The Queen’s Health Systems (QHS).

• Works collaboratively with the System Director and Infection Prevention (IP) staff to support the development of system policies and procedures to support best practice related to disinfection and sterilization.

• Assists in the data collection, analysis, evaluation of interventions and development of infection control processes specific to disinfection and sterilization.

• Leads high-level disinfection (HLD) and low-level disinfection (LLD) initiatives and collaborates with key personnel to ensure ongoing compliance system-wide.

II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Essential: finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking.

• Continuous: sitting, static gripping of an object for prolonged periods.

• Frequent: walking.

• Occasional: standing, stooping/bending, climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground, lifting and carrying usual weight of one pound up to five pounds, reaching above, at and below shoulder level, frequent gripping of an object.

• Operates computers, telephone and other office type equipment.

III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, business or other healthcare related field; or four (4) years’ experience in disinfection and sterilization core functions with conceptual knowledge of fundamental theories, principles and practices may be substituted for the education requirement.

• Current certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or must obtain certification within six (6) months of entrance into the position.

• Current certification in Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC) is highly desirable.

B. EXPERIENCE:

• In addition to educational requirement, minimum three (3) years progressive experience in disinfection and sterilization, preferably in a comparable facility, and/or direct experience in a satellite or like industry sterile processing setting.

• Two (2) years management experience.

• Experience to demonstrate the following:

o Knowledge of principles of disinfection and sterilization from a regulatory standpoint, e.g., CMS, The Joint Commission, OSHA and an understanding of the implications of compliance and non-compliance.

o Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel).

o Experience working in process improvement.

o Proven communications, motivation, mentoring and interpersonal skills.
