Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawaii may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to one calendar year for part-time employees.

Part Time Temporary Position

of hours per week: up to 19 hours/week

To begin approximately January 2025 or soon thereafter; continuation dependent on satisfactory work performance and availability of funds.

Work Location: O'ahu

Hourly Range: $23 - $32 per hour

Opening Date: December 18, 2024

Closing Date: December 30, 2024

Job Duties:

-Promote and foster development of college and career skills for Native Hawaiian students through direct teaching and by providing opportunities for students to first observe and then act. -Assist in the development of model components related to Educational Coach responsibilities, including skill development workshops and responsiveness to the needs of students accessing student services at UH System Community Colleges. -Document students' progress, collect project data, and maintain accurate records and confidentiality for project staff review. -Create and maintain a positive environment for student participants through modeling collegial behaviors. -Assist students as they develop understanding of learning styles, strengths/weaknesses, available resources, etc; suggest ways to address risk factors for success in college. -Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: -Possession of a baccalaureate degree and one (1) year of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for teaching individuals in multicultural settings; or equivalent education/training or experience. -Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in education and/or psychology demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology. -Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations. -Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals. -Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software. -Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
