UH Manoa-Education casual Educational Coach - Hawai'i Island in Honolulu, Hawaii

Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawaii may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to one calendar year for part-time employees.

Job Title: casual Educational Coach- Hawai'i Island Part Time Temporary Position# of hours per week: up to 19 hours/week Hourly Rate: $23 - $32 per hourWork Location: Hawai'i Island Closing Date: January 31, 2025 (review of applications will begin on December 23, 2024) To begin approximately December 2024 or soon thereafter; continuation dependent on satisfactory work performance and availability of funds.

Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Promote and foster student self-determination and self-advocacy through direct coaching and by providing opportunities for students to first observe and then act (e.g. asking for accommodations). 2. Document students' progress, collect project data, and maintain accurate records and confidentiality for project staff review. 3. Provide one-on-one coaching for and tutoring students with a variety of learning challenges/disabilities. 4. Assist in the development of model components related to Educational Coach responsibilities, including person centered planning and interagency teaming initiatives. 5. Create and maintain a positive environment for student participants through modeling collegial behaviors. 6. Participate on person-centered planning teams; assist students as they provide information to team on learning styles, strengths/weaknesses, necessary accommodations, etc; suggest ways to address barriers to inclusion in college. 7. Support project students on Hawai'i Island (Big Island). 8. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: 1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Education, Psychology, or related field. 2. Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in education and/or psychology demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology. 3. Experience teaching, coaching, or mentoring young people in academic work, especially those with disabilities or those at-risk of school failure. 4. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations. 5. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals. 6. Demonstrated technology and software literacy (Mobile Devices, Online Learning Platforms, Microsoft Office and Google Suites). 7. Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated. 8. Must be available to work a flexible schedule with varied duties and able to multi-task. 9. Ability to travel independently to various geographical site/school locations in a timely manner.
