UH-Honolulu CC Academic Support (Educational Specialist) AERO in Honolulu, Hawaii

  • Identify and implement equipment, parts, materials, manuals, tooling, audio-visuals, teaching aids, replacements, furnishings, software, and supplies using specialized knowledge of a FAA approved Part 147 program.
  • Using conventional and electronic media, research and make recommendations on availability of commercially developed aviation systems teaching aids or the parts and supplies needed to construct in-house developed aviation maintenance training teaching aids.
  • Write exact specifications to ensure delivery of the correct aviation equipment, parts, materials, manuals, technical information, tooling, teaching aids, furnishings, software and supplies to ensure the retention of the program's approved Part 147 status.
  • Work with Administration and Lead Instructor to program and anticipate availability of funds to be coordinated with program needs to expedite the acquisition of required and desired aviation maintenance equipment, parts, materials, etc.
  • Establish andf maintain effective communication with suppliers, Administration and State purchasing personnel to complete FAA required transactions in a timely fashion.
  • Anticipate and order supplies and tools to ensure that the program will be able to meet the FAA certified curriculum requirements.
  • Receive, verify and inventory incoming equipment, parts, materials, etc. for compliance with certified curriculum requirements.
  • Perform light delivery and pick-up of locally obtainable materials.
  • Organize and centralize all required (by FAA certification) and non-required aviation equipment, parts, materials, manuals, technical information, tooling, audio-visuals, teaching aids, replacements, furnishings, software and supplies.
  • Estatblish and maintain a list of required and desired aviation equipment, parts, materials, etc. in coordination with the program instructional staff for the future improvement of the program.
  • Develop and maintain a computerized inventory control system for tools, technical information and supply items. Coordinate the operation of tool room.
  • Organize and maintain a key storage and lock system for the faculty and the secured tooling and equipment. Issue tools and supplies to students and faculty.
  • Train and supervise students as part-time assistants in the tool room.
  • Maintain and/or schedule servicing of program equipment, inventory and update technical information.
  • Replace damaged or outdated required aviation maintenance technology equipment, parts, materials, manuals, technical information, tooling, audio-visuals, teaching aids, replacement furnishings, software and supplies.
  • Develop minimum competencies and performance objectives in the proper use of aviation tools and equipment.
  • Supervise student projects assigned by instructors including projects in painting, sheet metal, welding, woodworking, air frame and engine rebuilding.
  • Supervise student operation of equipment in the Aeronautics shop. Provide one-to-one instruction during lab sessions. Instruct students in the use of proper aviation nomenclature.
  • Prepare all lab instructional items as required for upcoming classes.
  • Train students in inventory control, technical information use and maintenance, parts ordering, specification and nomenclature and tool use.
  • As necessory, provide instruction during the absence of primary instructors.
  • In consultation with faculty, develop and implement training plans to train students in the proper use and maintenance of aircraft tools, provide teaching assistance in the laboratory in one-on-one situations with students.
  • Assist program instructors in instructing students in correct aircraft maintenance practices, provide equipment laboratory instruction to students. Participate in the evaluation and assessment of students.
  • Teach proper parts identificaiton and inventory control methods to students.
  • Conduct group presentations and follow-up with one-on one instruction while monitoring lab activities to assure that students learn to properly account for all parts added to and removed from aircraft.
  • Develop new lab activities with instructors as required by FAA certification changes and as dictated by educational requirements.
  • Guide students and assist instructors in the creation of uniquely fabricated equipment and parts through the use of machine tools.
  • Assist instructors in shop organization including equipment preparation and placement to insure an optimum learning environment.
  • Assist in the maintenance of equipment by performing minor repairs where appropriate. Design and produce unique parts and equipment for program support.
  • Participate with instructors in curriculum development of system specific safety performance objectives and tests that will provide the students with the capabilities to be aware of the safety practices of the aviation industry.
  • Provide one-on-one instruction during lab sessions in personal safety, fire prevention and the safe use of paints, chemicals, tools and equipment.
  • Ensure that conditions in the Aeronautics shop itself meet all safety standards.
  • Serve as the section environmental health/safety representative responsible for ensuring proper hazardous waste management (awareness, procurement, safe handling, storage and disposal) in accordance with federal, state and local directives.
  • Conduct and document required EHSO inspection and audits. Receive annual hazardouse waste management training. Act as an substitute instructor as per the HCC approve Part 147 Manual.
  • FACILITIES COORDINATION. Coordinate the scheduling of program facilities for non-credit training and aviation community service activities.
  • Schudule maintenance and repair to the program facility as necessary. Do a daily check on the cleanliness and security of the facility. At the beginning of each month, check the time clock for proper settings.
  • Answer incoming calls to the faculty and telephone inquiries regarding program details.
  • Collect and maintain repair manuals, technical information, schematics and other training aids in a fully composed and indexed library.
  • Other duties as assigned.
