General Summary:
The Intern, Engineering will spend time with our professional Broadcast and System engineers who support CNN's Field-based newsgathering and production operations, in a deadline-led news environment, for broadcasting and editorial clients .
The Intern, Engineering must have an aptitude for media/broadcasting/electrical/system engineering and is technically-minded. The individual should have strong interest in pursuing a career in information technology or broadcast engineering, experienced with desktop and laptop computers, basic electronics, and possesses fundamental knowledge of LANs and working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. The Intern, Engineering should be self-motivated, able to multitask, willing to collaborate and assist others, and the ability to function in a complex live broadcast environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist Field Engineers with TV broadcast systems design and implementation, technical quality control, electronic maintenance, equipment installations and operations;
Work with all types of equipment required for remote TV broadcasting, at possibly any location worldwide.
Assist Broadcast Engineers with professional technical support of the 24x7x365 news, and IT/IP/Video/Audio production environment.
Assist in the setup and operate a satellite news gathering ("SNG") truck, perform quality control, and perform minor maintenance and repair (when needed) of all television remote broadcast and/or satellite transmission and receiving equipment.
Provide logistical and maintenance support for the equipment and technical resources allocated to the department for ongoing field operations and to support our overseas bureau.
Gain hands on experience with Production Support activities, systems integration, and remote location service and support.
Participate in direct customer support, broadcast support, problem diagnosis, and ownership of issues through to resolution
Gain practical experience with CNN's Remedy tracking systems and many of the diverse computers, networking, and broadcast systems we support
Experience required:
Strong curiosity and willing to learn.
Must be computer-savvy, with experience in data networks, software and peripherals.
Ability to stay calm and self-motivated whilst working under pressure and in possible hostile environments.
Strong ability to lift and move equipment weighing 30 pounds or more is required to meet the needs of our customers.
Competent and confident in the use of specialised test equipment for undertaking electrical/electronic troubleshooting, diagnostics and maintenance work.
Some knowledge and experience of the configuration and alignment of complex equipment and systems.
Creative ability to overcome system and equipment level problems quickly by finding workaround solutions.
Good team player with excellent personal communication skills and self confidence
Must be fluent in English. Other foreign language skills are a plus
Must be passionate about news, self-motivated, able to multitask, have a good attitude, and be able to function well in fast paced, high volume environment.
Candidates must have the right of abode in Hong Kong or hold a valid student visa and No Objection Letter (NOL) from the Hong Kong Immigration Department.
Candidates are required to commit for a minimum duration of 3 months, starting from May/June 2025.
