Clean Harbors Traveling Safety Officer in HOME, Arizona

Clean Harbors project remediation group is seeking a Traveling Safety Officer to join our team. The Traveling Safety Officer is primarily responsible for supporting project sites and assisting with H&S program implementation and improvements.

** This position will travel 90-100%, must be open and flexible to travel on any type of cadence.

Location: Arizona, Colorado or New Mexico preferred but open to other Western states.

Pay: Hourly rate of $28-35 with possibility for considerable overtime.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and acting in a safe manner at all times;

  • Interface with project managers, superintendents, supervisors, foreman, equipment operators and laborers;

  • Work and learn under the guidance of the Health & Safety professionals;

  • Assist in the development of HASPs, JHAs, and other required safety documents;

  • Develop and manage safety related communication and updates;

  • Assist with onboarding and guidance of new employees;

  • Serve on the Safety Committee and help guide policy and procedures;

  • Assist with H&S related admin functions such as training and incident reporting;

  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned from time to time by management and will be required by the needs of the Clean Harbors business.

What does it take to work for Clean Harbors?

  • High school diploma or equivalent required;

  • Background in Health & Safety or an industrial environment is preferred;

  • Health and Safety degree or safety related certifications are a plus;

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills;

  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently;

  • Proficient with computes, web navigation, MS Suite, Adobe Acrobat;

  • Valid Driver’s License and 3 year clean MVR required;

  • Knowledge of Federal and State regulations.

Physical Requirements

  • This position is physically demanding, and candidates must be able to navigate varying site conditions where steep slopes and rugged terrain may be present and walk several miles per day. Some strenuous manual labor, including shoveling, pushing large fabric rolls, installing construction and silt fencing, lifting and moving pumps and other small equipment is required. Candidates must be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted and wear personal protective equipment that may restrict movement, when required.

  • Requires walking and standing for extended periods of time, sitting in equipment that may vibrate or jostle, climbing and working at heights, pulling/pushing, carrying, grasping, reaching, crawling, stooping, crouching, and balance. Requires speaking, listening, understanding, and writing English; color determination, depth perception, clarity of vision, and 20/20 eyesight (corrected or uncorrected).

  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment, and a clean personal appearance. Facial hair must always comply with the company’s respiratory protection facial hair policy.

Other Conditions of Employment

  • Complete an employment application and satisfy all employment requirements.

  • Pass a comprehensive pre-employment and annual fit for duty physical, drug screen, and background clearance.

  • Adhere to Clean Harbors’ policies/procedures and maintain current OSHA 40, RCRA, DOT, and other training.

  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and driving record that is satisfactory to Clean Harbors and be approved to operate light duty vehicles.

  • Must always demonstrate a professional standard of conduct. Clean Harbors’ employees are expected to represent the company during their entire work rotation, on or off our project sites.
