THE JOB
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically adept Senior Assistant Editor to join our team. This role involves assisting with editing tasks and performing various technical operations to ensure the seamless delivery of high-quality content. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in post-production processes, information security measures, excellent technical skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, and working on a high volume of projects with overlapping deadlines and tight turnarounds.
WHAT THIS ROLE WILL DO
Assistant Editing Duties:
Assist with the organization and management of media assets, including footage, audio, and graphics.
Support the editing team with initial project setup including ingesting and duplicating footage, syncing audio, creating proxies, and organizing media into bins.
Collaborate with editors to distribute hard drives or digital media, and ensure that software, plugins, settings, and best practices are established before and during a project.
Perform quality control checks on edited content to ensure it meets technical and creative standards.
Maintain and update project files and documentation to ensure an organized post-production workflow.
Own, facilitate, and complete the preparation of media for color and audio finishing, onlining, and final delivery.
Assist with encoding and transcoding tasks to prepare content for various platforms and formats.
Be able to jump into active projects for sudden changes to edits, graphics, or otherwise, on an as-needed basis.
Fulfill footage requests and manage a b-roll library for general footage needs.
Technical Operations Duties:
Operate and maintain post-production equipment and software, including editing suites, travel computers, servers, online subscriptions, and file management systems.
Troubleshoot technical issues related to editing software, hardware, and media files.
Implement and adhere to technical workflows and protocols to optimize efficiency and productivity, including physical and cloud-based workflows.
Manage data backups and ensure the security and integrity of media assets using established archiving protocol.
Develop and enforce policies for information security in post-production environments, including portable, cloud, and server-based storage systems and tools.
Ensure that sensitive media files and data are protected from unauthorized access, perform regular maintenance and updates on hardware and software, and recommend new tools or technologies that enhance information security.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to data protection and information security, while maintaining documentation of security policies and procedures.
Receive projects from editors for archiving, ensuring proper and consistent archiving procedures are followed, with redundancy measures taken to safeguard against data loss.
Write archived projects to both hard drives and LTO tapes to create reliable long-term storage solutions while optimizing retrievability.
Export final textless masters of all projects and store along with audio stems.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with editors, producers, motion specialists, colorists, audio mixers, creative directors, and other team members to ensure smooth communication and workflow.
Facilitate in-office and remote workflows via written and verbal communication with full-time and freelance post talent.
Provide support and technical guidance to team members as needed.
Participate in creative discussions and provide feedback on post-production processes and outputs.
Ensure production teams are equipped with physical media and guidance on specs and best practices for capture as it translates into post-production
Other Duties:
Stay updated with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in post-production.
Perform other related tasks as assigned by supervisors or project leads.
WHAT THIS PERSON WILL BRING
Bachelor’s degree in Film Production, Media Arts, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
5 years of editing and/or assistant editing experience on a post-production team in an Adobe Premiere environment.
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud software including Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, and Audition.
Solid understanding of video and audio formats, codecs, and file management.
Knowledge of conforming media for mixing audio and coloring footage, specifically with ProTools and Da Vinci Resolve.
Experience working with teams and organizing multimedia file types within projects and in source folders.
Organized and detail-oriented.
Flexibility working within an ever-changing, fast-paced content production environment.
Willingness to grow and work with new technology.
Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to resolve technical issues efficiently.
Sticking to deadlines, excellent prioritization skills, and solid team communication a must.
Preferred:
Experience with NAS servers.
Experience managing team members, workflows, and timelines.
Experience with project management software and tools.
Experience working with cameras.
Experience working with artists, on-camera talent, and/or sponsorship clients.

California Hiring Pay*: $80,000 - 90,000
