Data Protection and Privacy – Supervising Associate

Ethics, Compliance, and Risk Management (ECRM) supports our people in managing the risks that arise during our daily working lives. We work closely with all parts of the organization to identify, manage and monitor risk, providing coordinated advice and assistance on independence, conflicts, compliance, regulatory, policy, security issues, as well as dealing with claims and any queries regarding ethics.

As a Data Protection and Privacy Supervising Associate, you will support processes within the Ethics, Compliance, and Risk Management (ECRM). Our brand depends on it. Your key responsibilities
As part of the EY Americas Data Protection (Confidentiality, Data Privacy) function, you will help to interpret data protection and privacy laws and policies, determine required actions to standard and non-standard situations, and make recommendations based on firm guidance, professional standards, subject matter expertise, and acquired experience. You will promote compliance with data protection and privacy laws and policies by liaising with teams across our firm, specifically the Core Business Services (CBS) function to maintain our inventory of data, processing activities, applications, and suppliers; conduct compliance gap analyses to assess risks; and develop appropriate strategies, policies, and processes to achieve and maintain data protection compliance within the CBS function, including employee training and awareness efforts. The position involves coordination and reporting of various Data Protection activities to stakeholders and interacts with executive-level personnel.
Skills and attributes for success
Promotes data protection compliance within the US CBS function by:
Maintaining EY confidential and personal information inventory, in partnership with EY US CBS functions, to understand types of information that require protection, how data is processed, and what applications and suppliers are used to process it, in order to fulfill data protection regulatory requirements (e.g., Records of Processing Activities (ROPA));
Monitoring and assessing data protection compliance risks within US CBS function and participating in the development of plans to manage identified risks;
Guiding US CBS personnel through legal, regulatory, and EY firm data protection and privacy requirements by:
Participating in consultations with EY US CBS personnel regarding operational impact of data protection-related laws, regulations, and industry practices and
Recommending appropriate changes to EY processes and systems by leveraging knowledge of existing processes and business experience
Developing and maintaining EY US data protection policies, guidance, training, and awareness materials applicable to the CBS function to effectively address data protection risk. Delivering targeted Data Protection training and awareness to members of US CBS functions in order to maintain awareness of appropriate Data Protection practices;
Facilitating Data Protection operational activities for US CBS function, including but not limited to:
Due diligence activities for US CBS processes, systems/technology, and suppliers,
Responses to data subject rights (DSR) and internal data access requests in accordance with applicable data protection legal and regulatory requirements and EY policies, and
Investigation of data incidents (i.e., instances of loss, theft, or inappropriate disclosure of confidential/personal information) and driving implementation of remediation activities to minimize the likelihood of recurrence;
Assists other functions of the Data Protection program, including but not limited to:
Promoting compliance with new and/or revised applicable data protection laws, regulations, and standards (e.g., CPRA, VCDPA, HIPAA), and
Developing and maintaining EY U.S. data protection policies, guidance, training, and awareness communication plan to reflect new and/or changes to data protection laws, regulations, and other related EY policies
Interacts with various stakeholders and functions across the organization, such as EY’s Information Security, Ethics, Compliance, and Risk Management (ECRM), General Counsel’s Office (GCO), CBS Functions, Talent, including but not limited to:
Partnering with local and Global teams across the above Data Protection processes,
Working collaboratively with related various EY CBS Function Leaders so as to understand and recommend enhancements to various CBS Function policy or awareness efforts,
Assisting in reporting on various data protection program activities to key stakeholders within the organization, including senior leaders within CBS Functions, GCO, Ethics, Compliance, and Risk Management (ECRM), and others,
Developing relationships across teams/functions
Identifies emerging compliance risks and proposes solutions to address these; and
Participates in other ad hoc Data Protection & Privacy projects, as assigned.
To qualify for the role, you must have
Strong verbal & written communication skills

Solid understanding of relevant firm business and area wide data protection issues and concerns
Strong research and problem-solving skills
Flexibility and the ability to take the initiative
Ability to right-size risk
Strong organizational skills including creating streamlined reporting of all tasks
Ability to successfully handle multiple tasks
Good working knowledge of information systems and common software packages
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience; advanced degree preferred
3+ plus years related experience
Ideally, you’ll have
The ability to reference existing firm data protection and privacy policies as well as knowledge and experience to review complex situations and assist in proposing solutions
Strong knowledge of relevant global, national, and local data protection laws, regulations, and standards, as well as familiarity with other risk management initiatives outside of their specific area
Sound understanding of high-level technology trends and issues surrounding data protection
Privacy certification from ISACA or the International Association of Privacy Professionals (e.g., CIPP, CIPM, CDPSE)
What we offer
We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $80,000 to $163,200. The salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $100,000 to $170,000. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options. Join us in our team-led and leader-enabled hybrid model. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 40-60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year. Under our flexible vacation policy, you’ll decide how much vacation time you need based on your own personal circumstances.
