Summary About the Position: You will perform as a Maintenance Worker/Helper in a variety of operation and maintenance duties at a comprehensive water resource project consisting of a flood control dam and appurtenant structures, public-use recreational facilities, forest lands, and roads. Seasonal Positions: Seasonal position employees will be placed in non-pay status during the off season. Responsibilities Rearrange, modify, and hooks up outlets, switches, light fixtures, regulators, and circuit breakers to installed systems Perform oiling, cleaning, and minor adjustments on shop equipment. Uses hand tools and test equipment such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, soldering irons, test lamps, and ammeters. Perform basic carpentry work associated with maintaining operations buildings and public access areas. Maintain, repair, modify for accessibility, and occasionally constructs structures of concrete, block, and occasionally brick or other related materials. Assist in installing, modifying, and repairing existing and new utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water and oil distribution systems, water closets, tubs, and showers. Repair or replace broken downspouts and gutters on dwelling, garage, shop building, and gate house. Monitor river and/or lake stages at flood control project. Clear brush and wooded areas, using chain saw, axe, etc. Digs and refills ditches and compacts eroded soil banks, asphalt surfaces on parking areas. Shovels snow from sidewalks. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. Have the ability to perform some tasks including carpentry, install and replace electrical fixtures, install faucets and drains, weld, minor engine repair, and concrete work. I can operate a variety of motor vehicles. Work under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who reviews my work for completion. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Screen Out Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc. Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Incumbent must be able to perform all physical requirements of this position as identified in the position description. Duties include but are not limited to climbing ladders and steep stairways, and working on steep and uneven ground. Incumbent must be capable of lifting at least 50 pounds unassisted or up to 100 lbs with the assistance of one other person. Tasks requiring the ability to lift 50 pounds while working alone include but are not limited to lifting and carrying a five gallon can of kerosene, lifting and carrying a 50 pound bag of wildlife seed, lifting and carrying a 5 gallon can of paint, cleaning liquid or hydraulic oil. Tasks requiring the ability to lift up to 100 lbs. with the assistance of one other person include but are not limited to moving furniture and lifting 80 lb. bags of cement. WORKING CONDITIONS: Incumbent works in a variety of conditions. Work is completed on but not limited to scaffolding, high ladders or rooftops subject to dangers such as but not limited to falling, exposed to possibility of burns, cuts and bruises, broken bones or infections. Incumbent may work in inclement weather to perform duties including but not limited to surveillance of project, various inspections, boundary marking, special events, and emergency situations (respond to public accidents, drownings, etc.). Incumbent must be capable or working in conditions of dust, welding fumes, paint vapors and sandblast particles utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment for those conditions which may be heavy and uncomfortable. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation. Direct deposit of pay is required.
