Job Description

Our division designs and manufactures scanning and transmission electron microscopes. These are among the most sophisticated laboratory instruments in use today. Our microscopes contribute to developing better vaccines, lighter and stronger materials, new battery technologies, and more efficient chips. This role is in Hillsboro, Oregon, where many of our electron microscopes are designed and manufactured.

How will you make an impact?

You will directly support R&D teams with deploying sophisticated workflow applications in an on-premise Kubernetes environment, called the Software Delivery Platform. Being a link between the SDP team and software R&D teams is essential for the role.

The software teams will look to you to help design our way of working, and build guidelines and training material together with them. We will work together on the integration of new functionality in the platform, contributing to the SDP technology lifecycle, and solving problems using tools like ELK and Prometheus.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate enjoys working in a multi-disciplinary international environment to tackle complex technical problems. You will:

  • Assist R&D software teams with usage, integration, configuration, and effective utilization of the SDP platform in their products

  • Help the R&D organization with installation, system administration, and second-tier support of the internal fleet of SDP systems.

  • Collaborate with software teams to understand their requirements.

  • Develop scripts for automation and support of software development processes.

  • Engage with the global SETI team to improve the processes and services we offer.

Requirements

The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology, or equivalent experience.

  • 5 years related experience within industry.

  • Strong analytical and empirical problem-solving abilities.

  • Demonstrated ability with Infrastructure as Code, e.g. using Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, or similar technologies. Linux is our platform.

  • Proven background in virtualization platforms and cloud technologies, such as VMware, OpenStack, Azure, or Amazon AWS.

  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash.

You will be part of the R&D Software Engineering Tools and Infrastructure team, a distributed team that supports all the software groups within R&D. As our R&D teams are located across different development sites in the US and Europe, infrequent traveling and the occasional early morning are part of the job. You must be eligible for a passport and willing to travel.

We look forward to your application!
