Job Summary

Our Materials and Structural Analysis division designs, manufactures, and supports high-performance microscopy workflows for the life sciences, materials sciences, and semiconductor industries. As a key member of this division's Global Digital Technical Publications department, you'll define, develop, and manage technical content for electron microscope systems and software based out of our Hillsboro, Oregon, location. Can consider remote USA locations.

Job Duties

Your contribution as Senior Technical Writer relies on extensive experience in four chief functions:

Develop and deliver technical content

  • Define content strategies and architectures at the portfolio level for sophisticated, specialized publications.

  • Conduct interviews, research, observe, and work hands-on to capture and synthesize source material.

  • Architect customer-facing content using a variety of multimedia options appropriate to specific purposes and audiences.

  • Design and perform user research to define our audiences and evaluate the effectiveness of our team's work.

Manage projects

  • Lead the implementation of new publication workflows and processes at our local site.

  • Help develop, communicate, and manage project plans for new functional initiatives.

  • Provide transparency to all elements of a project to leadership, collaborators, and resources.

Analyze business processes

  • Collaborate on crafting solutions to improve our ways of working in support of our strategic vision and road map.

  • Work with internal business partners to gather information, requirements, and priorities and provide input to our project planning and decision-making processes.

Mentor and coach teammates

  • Train and counsel less experienced technical communicators and project teammates on effective technical communication practices, departmental software, and our functional processes.

Education

BS/BA in a writing- or science-related field, or the equivalent combination of experience and education.

Experience and Knowledge

  • 7+ years of technical writing experience.

  • Background in electron microscopy or related scientific field.

  • Solid experience working within Agile software development environments and understanding how different business groups fit together.

  • Advanced knowledge of structured authoring and single-sourcing, particularly using the MadCap software suite and other XML-based authoring tools.

  • Thorough experience with GitLab, Jira, HTML, CSS, Microsoft Office 365, Teams, and SharePoint.

  • Successful project work in cross-functional and cross-cultural international work teams.

  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written.
