BAE Systems is seeking a motivated Principal Scientist for an exciting opportunity to support the Air Force's acquisition of the next generation Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM).

The DTO Team, headquartered adjacent to Hill Air Force Base, UT develops state-of-the art software, tools, and other products forsensor-data processing, analysis, storage, and visualization for challenging problems in the areas of video analytics, image processing, and other temporal data sources.We utilize advanced techniques for data science, machine learning, computer vision, statistical analysis, and cloud computing to discover meaning in diverse data sets associated with the Air Force s next generation Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) and other warfighting domains. We develop sophisticated software and other solutions for a multitude of critical challenges facing the ICBM and other mission spaces. Job Details
As a member of the Digital Transformation Office, you will contribute to a highly-motivated small team responsible for development and deployment of software, data analysis, and diverse capabilities for client-driven programs, and the integration of these technologies into BAE Systems products and customer platforms.
The ideal candidate enjoys learning in a challenging technical environment; collaborating on multiple teams and projects; and can apply their technical skill and innovation towards solving real-world problems.
You will work with research scientists and engineers to implement advanced algorithms, software, and models for a broad array of applications including computer vision, machine learning, data fusion, data science, and other advanced analytics. This work will be performed working directly with an experienced cross-functional development team utlilizing a development platform/ environment that aligns with DevSecOps and GitOps principles towards CI/CD.
Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it can be offered as hybrid work format, with time split between working remotely, with planned onsite collaboration and lab time as well as customer demonstrations and engagements.
The position is being filled as a part of the Future ICBM Sustainment and Acquisition Construct (FISAC) under which BAE Systems augments organic government resources by providing breadth and depth of capabilities for system engineering and integration, risk management, technical assessment, acquisition program management, strategy development, organization and change management, interface with operations and logistics, business analysis, mission effectiveness, and ICBM Demonstration / Validation (Dem/Val) Integrated Applications Programs. Positions will be located at or near Hill AFB, Utah, or other select BAE Systems locations.

Why Sentinel? The Sentinel Program is an enormous and complex Mega-Project modernizing the entire ICBM weapon system deployed across tens of thousands of square miles in five states. Without a doubt Sentinel is one of the DOD s most important acquisition efforts for the next decade, if not longer. It includes a complete refurbishment of hundreds of aging Minuteman III ICBM facilities to secure and support a newly designed, technologically advanced ballistic missile. It will also provide an entirely new command and control system as well as vast array of required support equipment specifically engineered to operate and sustain the new weapon system over the decades ahead. Sentinel is the Department of Defense s newest official program of record having just achieved Milestone B and enjoys broad, strong support at the national level. It is a long-term project with the weapon system anticipated to deploy over a nine-year period beginning in 2026 and remain operational until at least 2075. Sentinel is a career defining program that will present unique and challenging opportunities that simply available with smaller projects.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
7 Years progressive experience with BS (2 years with Masters, 0 years with PhD) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Analytics, Physics, Statistics or other relevant discipline
Demonstrated ability to:
Develop, transform, and models data to improve decision making through data extraction and manipulation of data sets
Create workflows and predictive models for application to diverse problem sets, either independently, or as part of a cross functional team, depending on scope of the project
Conduct statistical analysis on data to ensure correct predictive forecasting
Manage requested capabilities by capturing and validating requirements of the project while assessing your assigned contribution to the effort
Assess effectiveness of developed solutions/ models/ work product for the intended purpose and collaborate with the team & customer to continuously enhance and advance new capabilities (including briefing, demonstrating, facilitating, and engaging as needed to ensure effective collaborations and outcome-driven contributions
Ability to obtain DoD TS/SCI clearance
Lead, manage, and mentor junior scientists and interns
Have experience in Python, Anaconda, and Pandas
Have experience in Data Science, Machine Learning, and Statistical Analysis
Have a track recordof developing and organizing your own projects
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $91980 - $156330
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
