Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install and assemble elevators based on blueprints and specifications, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Regularly inspect elevators to identify issues, perform preventive maintenance, and test safety features, controls, and emergency systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot elevator malfunctions, replacing worn or faulty parts to prevent breakdowns.
  • Conduct emergency repairs to restore elevator service, particularly in critical settings like hospitals or high-rise buildings.
  • Modernize older elevators with newer technologies and safety features, ensuring compliance with current building codes and regulations.
  • Test newly installed or repaired elevators for proper operation and make necessary adjustments.
  • Maintain records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, and code violations.
  • Prioritize safety by adhering to safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Engage with building owners, managers, and occupants to schedule and communicate maintenance and repair activities.
  • Address unexpected challenges and find innovative solutions during elevator work.

Requirements:

  • Ability to read and work from technical drawings and blueprints to guide elevator installations and repairs.
  • Proficiency in electrical systems, including wiring, circuitry, and troubleshooting, to ensure the safe functioning of elevator electrical components.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and traction elevators, as well as expertise in modern elevators with advanced electronic controls.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and national building and elevator codes to ensure adherence to safety and operational standards.
  • Analytical and troubleshooting skills to identify issues and devise appropriate solutions during maintenance and repair work.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods during shifts.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as needed to accommodate client schedules and emergency repairs.
  • Knowledge and skill in using hand and electrical tools such as grinders, drill motors, coring machines, and electrical reading and testing equipment.
  • Proficiency in using hoisting and rigging equipment, chain tackles, etc., for safe elevator installation and maintenance.
  • Capable of climbing, crawling, stooping, ascending ladders, and walking on beams; able to lift and carry heavy tools and materials (exceeding 50 pounds) and, with assistance, items weighing up to 200 pounds.
  • Comfortable working from high ladders and scaffolding while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Ability to work safely in close proximity to moving and operational equipment within elevator shafts and mechanical spaces.
  • Adaptability to working in environments with challenging conditions, including dust, dirt, high temperatures (exceeding 100 degrees), and exposure to oily and greasy equipment.
  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver's license.
  • High School completion
  • 24 months of experience in the offered job or related field
