JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Department of Neural and Behavioral Sciences, Yongsoo Kim lab at Penn State College of Medicine, in Hershey, PA, is looking for a highly motivated postdoc who is willing to embrace new approaches for important questions in neuroscience.

We have multiple current and incoming NIH projects to establish cellular cell type architecture maps of mammalian brains using mice as an animal model. Three main lines of research include 1) the brain-wide mapping of brain cell types including GABAergic neurons, glia, and cerebrovascular network, 2) anatomical and functional investigation of the oxytocin system in the context of social behavior and neurodevelopment, and 3) creating 3D atlases for developing mouse brains. We utilize high-resolution 3D imaging tools (e.g., light sheet fluorescent microscopy) and computational approaches to examine cellular resolution details in the whole mouse brain. Moreover, we use systems neuroscience approaches (e.g., miniscope neural recording, connectivity tracing) to examine circuit specific function in the brain.

We are particularly looking for PhD level scientist with expertise in animal behavior tracking (e.g., social behavior) using deep learning and its causal link with specific neural circuits. Expertise in circuit manipulation tools (e.g., optogenetics, chemogenetics) is highly desirable. However, candidates with other experimental and/or data skills are welcome to apply. Experience in computer programming (e.g., Matlab, Python), neuroinformatics, and/or advanced microscopy tools is plus, but not required. A candidate with substantial research experience and productivity can be considered at a research associate (staff scientist) or higher level. More details of the lab including publications can be found in the lab web site (https://kimlab.io/). We aim to build a strong research team with complimentary expertise. Furthermore, we have several on-going collaborations with labs across the world that bring different expertise, which provide ample opportunities to publish with leading experts in different field of neuroscience.
