Summary:
Under general supervision, abrades surfaces of metal parts and assemblies to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust and process by performing the following duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follows production schedule and/or direction of supervisor.
- Starts equipment that directs blast or flow of abrasive laden compressed air over surface of parts.
- Removes shot from parts using an air hose.
- Loads and unload tables used for smaller components.
- Shovels or pours abrasive shot of specified grade into machine hopper.
- Controls a high-powered jet of abrasives to remove scale, paint, grime, rust, and other imperfections from the metal surface.
- Examines finished parts to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Wears personal protective equipment as required. This includes fresh air helmet, blast suit and protective gloves.
- Follows proper safety procedures at all times.
- Cleans work area daily.
- Previous experience operating a forklift is a plus
- Other duties may be assigned.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Regularly required to talk and hear.
- Required to stand, walk, climb, sit, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
- Frequently required to use fingers, hands, and arms to handle and reach.
- Must frequently lift and/or move 5-30lbs.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50+lbs.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Required to work four 12-hour days, occasionally working up to 5 days/week as business demands.
- Ability to wear protective gear due to fumes or airborne particles.
- Ability to frequently be exposed to flashing lights.
- Must occasionally be exposed to weather conditions such as: precipitation, extreme cold and extreme heat.
- Regularly required to wear hearing protection in a loud environment.
