We are looking for an experienced Deputy Project Director to lead the day-to-day execution of our Capability Life Cycle Manager (CLCM) program based at Henderson WA.

We look for specialists with a talent for big picture thinking and attention to detail, alongside strong leadership capabilities to develop and deliver strong outcomes for our nation and defence.

This new position provides a career pathway to senior leadership opportunities in the professional Program and General Management streams.

Reporting directly to the Project Director, the Deputy Project Director will collaborate with specialist functional teams, key defence stakeholders and a team of highly capable professionals focused on achieving:

  • Delivery of the program culture and performance.

  • The safe and timely delivery of contract commitments and project milestones; underpinning the Navy’s mission to fight and win at sea.

  • The business objectives of the company; ensuring operational requirements and financial performance is within the program parameters.

    Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day execution of the CLCM program.

  • Ability to form and maintain close relationships with a wide range of external stakeholders, to solicit, manage and effectively use intelligence and to identify, direct, and manage the resources required to delivery compelling strategies and high-quality solutions.

  • Lead and collaborate in a cross-functional environment to meet RAN operational requirements.

  • Demonstrate high-levels of negotiation skills and influence across internal and external stakeholder groups.

  • Provide briefings, presentations and reporting to governance bodies and organisational leadership.

  • Lead the planning, coordination and management of program operations, whilst driving the effectiveness and results through implementing strategies and plans.

  • Manage project opportunities and risks and develop mitigation strategies.

  • Assess, identify and manage program risk and opportunity in line with the company’s policies and procedures.

  • Mentor and lead project staff to develop and enhance business.

  • Liaise with other members of the business development organisation to maintain a forecast of potential strategic activities that require support, and plan resource allocation.

    Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years prior relevant experience (when a University Degree is held).

  • University degree in engineering, Project Management, Business Management or other relevant discipline or equivalent experience.

  • Eligible for registration as a Registered Project Manager (Reg PM) and certification as a CPPM through the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM).

  • Requires broad management and leadership knowledge to lead project teams.

  • Significant expertise in relevant domain concepts and technology.

  • Proven experience in strategy development in an Industry environment.

  • Proven experience in complex project management including:

  • Leading integrated product team(s).

  • Geographically dispersed teams and stakeholders.

  • Multiple / complex lines of communication.

  • Variable backlog or schedule with compounding interactions. Specialist resources that are difficult to obtain/retain.

  • Management of specific environmental hazards.

  • High levels of system complexity.

  • Experience managing subcontracts and supporting program level objectives.
