Purpose of the Position:

Lead production operations, plant-level operational improvement projects, and plant-level continuous improvement efforts for a specific technology or product line. Achieve safety, quality, asset effectiveness, cost, inventory, service, and growth targets.

Required Education, Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor of Arts and Science – engineering degree preferred.

  • 6+ years of successful and proven supervisory, team leader and/or section supervisor experience in a manufacturing plant environment (equivalent leadership experience considered).

  • Experience and accountability for developing, implementing, and driving results for MBO’s and manufacturing line metrics.

  • Proven capability to lead, coach, direct and develop salaried exempt and nonexempt employees

  • Training in employee effectiveness, conflict resolution, coaching, listening skills, and supervisory effectiveness.

  • In depth knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean Principles

  • Training, understanding, and demonstrated competence in cost accounting, managing for profitability.

  • Trained and experienced in fundamentals of environmental stewardship, safety, and health.

  • Experience managing the talent development strategy for the department, including programs to attract, develop and retain key talent.

  • Led or participated in a cross-functional team in a manufacturing environment responsible for delivering key improvement initiative or cost reduction program.

Desired Skills

  • Exposure to multiple manufacturing processes and corporate network and resources.

  • Led or participated in a project team responsible to develop and/or launch a new product into manufacturing.

  • Proficient in collaborating, interfacing, and communicating upward and outward (Plant, Business and Division).

  • Certified Six Sigma Black belt or Green Belt

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion process control and change management efforts to adapt to upstream and downstream operations changes, drive improvement to process capability and mitigate resultant process variation in own department.

  • Effectively implement Operational Discipline principles by clearly communicating roles and responsibilities and holding all personnel accountable (direct or indirect reports) for adherence to instructional documentation and site safety standards.

  • Provide leadership to section supervisors, team leaders, technicians, and engineers, including effective management of key resources and overall talent management objectives.

  • Build a strong community team with support groups to optimize and continually improve performance of production operations – including but not limited to Engineering, IT, OSS.

  • Deploy Corning’s talent management programs within the department to effectively attract, develop, and maintain manufacturing talent; ensure that all salaried employees have training and development plans.

  • Ensure the protection of Corning’s Intellectual Property (IP).

  • Establish and define expectations for manufacturing competencies within the department.

  • Act as Gatekeeper for approval of all process/equipment changes and experimental plans involving the production process, including process improvement, new product trial runs, equipment/tooling redesign, raw material, batch and/or component changes ensuring changes and plans meet defined standards of excellence.

  • Deploy positive employee relations strategy and communicate openly and honestly with employees at all levels.

  • Promote organizational effectiveness through innovations and improvements in manufacturing and business processes using defined processes and tools as well as exploring new and novel techniques.

The range for this position is $119,558.00 - $164,393.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
