Purpose of the Position:

The environmental engineer will report to the EH&S Manager and is responsible for evaluating, designing, implementing, and maintaining workplace environmental and health programs that are consistent with applicable requirements (regulations, ISO 14001, corporate Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) standards, internal management system standards, and industry best management practices).

Key Tasks:

  • This role is to provide daily support and guidance for Environmental programs and processes for the plant.

  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for programs and processes while maintaining compliance with all Counties, State, Local, and corporate regulations and requirements. Ensure the facility remains current in all external reporting requirements.

  • Interfacing with a team of engineers and a variety of facility employees daily.

  • Provide guidance, leadership, technical support, program auditing for environmental programs and initiatives.

  • Participate in development and deployment of emergency services, facility auditing, incident investigation, ergonomics, lock-out/tag-out, potential problem analysis, potential hazard assessments, risk assessments and others.

  • Provide training in policies and procedures and communicate with the work force to ensure uniform compliance regarding environmental initiatives.

  • Work with project teams on hazard identification, evaluation and control and appropriate risk assessment and risk mitigation.

  • Provide project review and oversight for a wide range of construction projects throughout the facility. Conduct self-assessments prior to scheduled audits and take leadership in prioritizing and acting on audit findings and recommendations. Review and add input to job safety analysis and work procedures.

  • Coordinate reporting, tracking, and trend analysis of environmental incidents.

  • Ensure that environmental performance is communicated to the facility employees.

  • Provide input to Management to set short (annual) and long term (3-5 year) goals for environmental improvements.

  • Supports the EH&S Manager with the development of annual plans including goals, objectives, targets, training, audits, etc.

Work Hours:

  • Standard Hours (Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm)

  • Managing a 24/7 plant structure, so occasional support when needed.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related subject.

  • Minimum of 7 years of Environmental Health & Safety experience.

  • Knowledge of OSHA.

  • Problem solving skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.

  • Excellent presentation skills.

  • Prioritization skills.

  • Ability to drive deployment and champion change by proactively identifying, analyzing workplace hazards and taking the appropriate actions to manage risks to an acceptable level work under limited supervision.

  • Intermediate level of knowledge using standard Microsoft desktop applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook). Experience with SharePoint a plus.

The range for this position is $86,772.00 - $119,312.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
