State of Montana IT Systems Support in Helena, Montana

The Montana Historical Society (MTHS) seeks an energetic and talented IT professional for the full-time position of IT System Support. The ideal candidate is a motivated, energetic team member who loves supporting MTHS’s programs with valuable IT work, embraces the position’s role in leading efforts to manage the various audio-visual equipment of the agency, and is excited to be a part of the behind-the-scenes IT efforts that support the Montana Heritage Center opening in Fall 2025 and ongoing operations of the Montana Historical Society. Function: The Information Technology office is one of six sections within the Administration Program of MTHS. Under the direction of the IT Systems Administrator, this position shares responsibility for MTHS’s many IT activities and will be responsible for management of specialized systems, lighting and staging, and audio-visual needs of the agency. The shared activities include management of the routine equipment and software needs of MTHS’s six programs and eventual 80 agency employees, audio-visual equipment in the new MTHS Event Center, and our future enhanced website and museum management software. Among other tasks, the ability to embrace and have enthusiasm for new MTHS technology, have great time management skills, along with a welcoming and friendly attitude, is important to this position. Representative Duties: * Setup and operation of audio and video equipment, including cameras, microphones, lighting, and mixing consoles to deliver a variety of multimedia products for broadcasting, compression output, webcasting, video streaming, and digital distribution. * Creates documentation, provides training, and troubleshoots technical issues in real-time for on premise, virtual, and hybrid events, meetings, and classes for various internal and external audiences. * Perform routine maintenance to ensure all equipment functions optimally. * Coordinates preproduction activities which involve interacting with clients and operating all video and audio equipment when needed. * Transports and sets up portable equipment, including lighting, IT, and audio equipment on occasion. * Documents, trains and hosts events, meetings, and training. * Edit, optimize, organize, and publishes accessible multimedia content for multiple platforms. * Evaluates and purchases audio-visual and IT equipment. * Performs video postproduction tasks, which includes reviewing footage, applying edits, computer graphics, special effects, music, sound design, and color treatment in accordance with final multimedia production concept guidelines * Collaborates with library archives to index content and ensures it is backed up appropriately and is easily accessible Skills: * Knowledge of audio and video production techniques and equipment operation. * Knowledge of conferencing software, social media platforms, and web publishing. * Skills in operation in the use of computer hardware and software. * Skills in projectors, film, video, mixing consoles, and lighting. * Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely in both oral and written form. * Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, the media, and the public. * Ability to coordinate sound and lighting for events. Minimum Physical/Mental Requirements: * May require 8 or more hours a day working with audio visual/IT equipment. * May require more than a 40-hour workweek. * May work weekends or after hours to assist with events, perform systems upgrades, or changes. * May require on-call work to respond to issues. * May require lifting bulky, equipment, up to 40 pounds. * May require frequent contact with the public. Qualifications: * Associate degree in an Information Technology, video production, or related field * Two years of relevant experience supporting multimedia productions and events * Other combinations of education, certification or experience may be substituted.
