State of Montana Investment Analyst 1 in Helena, Montana

The Montana Board of Investments (BOI) is seeking anInvestment Analystfor our Fixed Income team. The BOI manages approximately $28 billion in investments for state entities and local government participants through the Unified Investment Program and approximately $105 million in bonds payable,with the proceeds funding a revolving low-interest loan program for state entities and local government borrowers. The Investment Analyst provides vital support to the Board’s entire investment staff, involving specific program implementation, research, and technical assistance. The incumbent will focus on internal fixed income investments, primarily domestic, investment-grade bonds.The internal fixed income team manages a variety of portfolios, including Core Fixed Income for the Consolidated Asset Pension Pool (CAPP), the Trust Funds Investment Pool (TFIP), the Short-Term Investment Pool (STIP), and the State Fund Investment Portfolio (SFIP). Responsibilities include: * Performing credit analysis on new and existing fixed income investments using quantitative and qualitative analysis. Making investment recommendations to the Fixed Income team. * Executing all aspects of trading and settling fixed-income securities with guidance from the Director of Fixed Income. * Developing and maintaining knowledge and investment skills to judge various viable investment opportunities using provided resources and tools such as Bloomberg, external research services, and other publicly available information. * Monitoring investment performance/risk/activity in absolute terms and relative to benchmarks. * Maintaining pool and portfolio analytics supporting the external or internal management program. * Creating and maintaining investment information and reporting that assists with the monitoring, decision-making, and communication of the investment process. * Assisting internal accounting staff and custodial bank as necessary to achieve reporting standards and process investment transactions. * Interfacing regularly and supporting the Chief Investment Officer, Executive Director, other members of the Senior Investment staff, and the Board as necessary. * Communicate with BOI clients as directed to ensure that all requests for information are responded to accurately and promptly. Qualifications: * Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or Economics. * * One to three years of experience in asset management, investment management, investment consulting, or other financial fields. An MBA or related master's degree is strongly preferred. * * Demonstrated knowledge of investment types, their application, use, and markets. * * The experience requirement may be waived for progress toward the CFA, CAIA, or other relevant certificates of achievement or additional relevant graduate degree coursework.* * CFA and/or CAIA preferred.* The Investment Analyst must pass a background check.
